So, yeah. The West has, as usual, been arming actual right-wing extremists whose permutation of nationalism is aggressive and murderous. And, yes, all the people saying "there are no neo-Nazis in Ukraine" are mostly people who don't quite understand that the actual extremists are always a minority. Not everyone fighting in the ME, for example, is a Jihadi ready to blow himself up for Allah, but the hard core of extremism is generally what resistance is built around - let's just hope that the West trying to build most well-armed nation in Europe around that hard core doesn't backfire.

Putin didn't expect this to happen and he probably didn't know the sorry state his military really is in.
China had nothing to do with this, they're not directly involved and there's no gain for them given their global plans so it's not their dance.
China is probably not yet backing Russia, but the rumours are both hilarious and sad is Putin has asked them to supply him.

The Chinese knew. The timing is too convenient, straight after the Winter Olympics. And we know how Putin loves to invade during the Olympics, so Putin must have been extra nice to wait until the end this time!

It was a 99 year lease with the British that ended in 1997. But there was a joint agreement with China in 1984 that it would remain a "one country, two system" situation for 50 years. The Chinese broke their end of the deal.

But still, it's not like we can compare China's economic stranglehold and might with Russia. At this point, it'll take China, India and a few others to help prop up Russia's failing economy, and even then I don't know if it'll be enough.
