Nuclear has two flaws.
It costs a fortune to set it up and takes forever.
Germany had already built the things! Once you get past that initial investment cost nuclear is basically the best energy source in every conceivable aspect.
And they just threw it away.
Germany nuclear definitively was not cheap, they kept their nuclear program under the "nuclear latency" doctrine, which means they needed those reactors if there was the need to develop a nuke.
That being said since the end of the Cold War, Germany has increasingly neglected its security needs, shutting down these nuclear plants was pure greed and naivety.
