International Russia/Ukraine Megathread V12

Point is Sweden isn't going to diminish their own small air force to help Ukraine no matter how much we'd want them to. They've literally said as much. They don't have the planes to give.

And in the future, F35's will only be a complement to the Gripens as they're the backbone of their air power.

There's so many f16 airframes I don't think adding a unique platform for logistics makes sense anyways.

I think they definitely want Putin gone, but I really doubt they want Russia to splinter- could be very dangerous if it did.
I think that they would like some clarity as to who would take over if Putin fell , I believe fear of that unknown is why they are holding back a bit

If Ukraine gets through at Robotyne, that's one defensive line broken. Two more to go. That can sound depressing after all this time and effort, but it's important to remember that the real factor is what has happened to the two forces contesting the battlefield. Ukraine is claiming 1:5 ratio in casualties in its favour, which is probably unlikely. But if it's 1:3 or something like that, it might mean that taking one the next defensive line will be easier and the next one easier still... of course even the casualty figure isn't everything: how much ammo does each side have stockpiled etc. also matters. All the same, there is hope we are finally getting real evidence of progress on the battlefield.

also dont forget the river bed is dry enough to cross heavy armour

Sweden only has 96 Gripens which they need for themselves. They don't have any to spare.

Also the claim they might send is based on Swedens prime minster saying (in a morning news show) that we are not sending any JAS to Ukraine, but he wont rule out that changes in the future".

Thats a very weak, "Sweden might send" Imo.
Experts claim that IF Sweden sends JAS its 10 planes or a similar number.

I think that they want Putin to keep his post as long as he will be able to do this.
A lot of ppl in russia west and east are statisfied with Putin and in reality happy....

Lukashenko is absolutely stupid.
He told that Belarus is peaceful, bad west is planning to attack Minsk, he might use preemptive attacks on Poland and Baltic countries.

I think he will get till they really will close borders with Belarus. Especially cos Bel border guards and police pretends that they doesn't see criminals illegally crossing EU borders etc shit.
I.e they ofc maintain official control points operating in normal mode....
While outside from official control points they ....are controlling absolitely nothing and pretending that they ( border guard and police ) doesn't exist.
Therefore criminals might damage fences etc....

Putin is loved by all weapons sellers. Chinesse weapons sellers too are happy because Putin is using weapons in dumbass, russian MIC reputation had dropped and chinesse weapons export therefore had boosted up. Russian MIC ofc loves Putin and in general all weapons sellers and manufacturers are happy.
They are happy.
Poland will sign additional deals for more than 12 b EUR....
Lithuanian MoD advocates to denounce treaty about cluster ammo and if they will push such proposal for voting and referendum then they will win....
Next step might be Ottava stuff about anti infantry mines.... most likely.
Ofc defense budget increased again etc.

Latvian government had postponed planned ( scheduled )vacations for border guards.
It is bad sign, this is first time in history ....they never did such thing.

i wouldn't say this guy is russian propaganda but he certainly has the doom and gloom for Ukraine niche covered. based on his twitter feed.

I mean this draft thing is all over this year

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/04/10/ukraine-draft-troops-reinforcements-training/

https://www.businessinsider.com/ukraine-man-paid-5000-for-diagnosis-avoid-draft-report-2023-8

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-65792384

It was expected really since all professionals, volunteers, idealists and people who just want to be first guy on block with confirmed kill, have signed up already.

Quality of troops tends to go down in long conflicts while military organization itself gets better at solving problems as time goes on.Russia has same problem

Another shocker...

I am also low key surprised Ukraine has made no effort to bomb or strike the palace. I know it has a very low military value but would be amazing to see it go up in flames.

The Russian general who oversaw the building of Vladimir Putin’s luxurious Black Sea palace and knew all of its secrets has died suddenly in prison.

Gennady Lopyrev, 69, had been due for parole but was reportedly diagnosed with leukaemia on Aug 14 and died two days later.

News agencies reported that he hadn’t previously complained of feeling ill but a Russian prisons watchdog official insisted that Lopyrev had died of natural causes.

“There was no crime,” said Viktor Boborykin of Russia’s Public Monitoring Commission.

Lopyrev was imprisoned in the IK-3 prison colony in the Ryazan region in central Russia for 10 years in 2017 for taking bribes in exchange for lucrative building contracts. IK-3 is a tough prison targeted by the Kremlin’s Wagner mercenary group for convict recruits to fight in Ukraine.

Lopyrev had previously been a lieutenant-general in the Federal Protection Service (FSO), the 50,000-strong military unit controlled by the Presidential Administration that is tasked with guarding Putin.

News agencies reported that as an FSO commander in the North Caucasus, one of Lopyrev’s main projects was to oversee construction and security of Mr Putin’s palace at Gelendzhik near Sochi on Russia’s Black Sea coast.

Hidden away in forests
Construction began in 2005 and cost an estimated £780 million. It is built in a mock Italian Renaissance fashion and is hidden away in forests next to a cliff that falls away to a sandy private beach.

The palace has a chapel, an underground ice hockey pitch, a vineyard, a theatre and helicopter landing pads.

It was supposed to be Putin’s impregnable luxury fortress and the US-based Institute for the Study of War said that Lopyrev would have been one of the only people who knew all its secrets: its entrances and exits; its weaknesses and strengths.

Corruption is rife in Russia’s armed forces but it is unusual for high-ranking generals to be charged and sent to prison for bribe-taking unless they have fallen out of favour.

In 2016, when Lopyrev was arrested, media reports said he had stubbornly denied the charges and claimed that he had been set up by other senior officers."

Well it should not really be a surprise.
The war have been going on for more than a year.
How many countries has an unlimited supply of people they can throw at the enemy?

Does this indicate that Ukraine will run out of people /soldiers?
Not at all imo. I believe Russia has problem too in this area.

It does show that war is stupid. I will never understand why we keep doing it.
The cost is enormous on so many levels.
If the leaders that rage war was forced to be on the front lines I am sure we would see a lot less wars.

i think most analysts agree right now that russia has a bigger manpower problem than Ukraine.
