International Russia/Ukraine Megathread V11

True, but Russia isn't at war with NATO, the E.U. or Britain. It's not like Russia has sovereignty of Ukrainian airspace or that of any allied nation. It's like Russia shooting at an U.S. AWACS over Poland because it's feeding info on Russian troop movements in Ukraine.
That's the issue. NATO are not pushing Russia's shit in directly atm. That all changes if Russia take down a NATO plane flying in international airspace. I don't think either NATO or Russia want that to happen.

What's the penalty for espionage/sabotage these days?
Heard he could be facing up to 20 years apparently.

Unless he got the said classified docs via hacking, I can't see why a dipshit grade airman in the national guard would have access to "Highly Classified docs on the war in Ukraine"

And why is CBS news allowed to "review" the classified material as well?

I'm generally not one for conspiracy theories but giving 21 year old airman with racist tendencies access to highly classified information seems more than just a system error. Sacrificial lamb?

The only stand out is the assessment that Ukraine has very little air defence systems left. Now if the US suddenly step up to fill that gap.... well.....let's wait and see what happens....

The Ukraine government, headed by Volodymyr Zelensky, has been using American taxpayers’ funds to pay dearly for the vitally needed diesel fuel that is keeping the Ukrainian army on the move in its war with Russia. It is unknown how much the Zelensky government is paying per gallon for the fuel, but the Pentagon was paying as much as $400 per gallon to transport gasoline from a port in Pakistan, via truck or parachute, into Afghanistan during the decades-long American war there.

What also is unknown is that Zelensky has been buying the fuel from Russia, the country with which it, and Washington, are at war, and the Ukrainian president and many in his entourage have been skimming untold millions from the American dollars earmarked for diesel fuel payments. One estimate by analysts from the Central Intelligence Agency put the embezzled funds at $400 million last year, at least; another expert compared the level of corruption in Kiev as approaching that of the Afghan war, “although there will be no professional audit reports emerging from the Ukraine.”

“Zelensky’s been buying discount diesel from the Russians,” one knowledgeable American intelligence official told me. “And who’s paying for the gas and oil? We are. Putin and his oligarchs are making millions” on it.

Holy shit! So the war is just a pantomime by Zelensky, Putin and Biden to speed entry of Ukraine into the EU! Wow!

I think what this is probably referring to is Ukraine buying much of its diesel from Bulgaria, who are supplied by Russian producer Lukoil. But that wouldn't sound so dramatic would it so they omitted that from the report.

So is it really some massive conspiracy or just a very complex situation? Ukraine need fuel to win the war. Bulgaria supply that need using Russian produced fuel, and the Russians are making money to fund their campaign but at the same time indirectly giving Ukraine vital fuel to continue their war effort...

So why doesn't someone step up to give Ukraine the diesel they need that isn't sourced from Russian companies? Perhaps it's not that easy....

IMHO for Ukr will be hard to regain territories.
Putin had changed tactique: now they are digging trenches, installing fortifications in occupied areas etc....

I agree, Not to mention losing is not an option for Putin so he will defend at any cost. It’s going to be ugly for the foreseeable future.

I mean, the EU has stopped using Russian diesel and EU is on the border of Ukraine. It's also hilarious how Hersh quotes anonymous intelligence officers. I bet he's pissed that kid had real Intel documents lol

Heard he could be facing up to 20 years apparently.

From the little information that we do have, i can't say i have a major issue with this.
He spread information that he knew was classified online to impress his online extreme-right buddies.
This will very likely end up causing deaths, directly or indirectly.

When you need the combined effects of a fragmentation and a blast overpressure grenades you put a hand grenade fuze to a 60mm mortar bomb.

was documented as a HIMARS strike earlier:

Pretty awesome rounds if you can fry 2 tanks with one shell from 27km away:

It is. With precision there simply is no need to fire 50000 shells a day, makes logistics much easier too.

The purpose of showing a beheading or a sledgehammer execution has nothing to do with the pain or distress felt by the victim, but everything to do with how it looks. It's purely a form of visual terror. Wouldn't inspire much fear in the enemy if they just filmed putting a guy in a room and lowering the oxygen level until he passed out?
No.
Being shot or blown up in combat inspires the same fear.

That would not work. Not the same fit and the mortar round is detonated from the front. That is where the timer goes. Air or ground burst.
That grenade fuse piece looks like it was welded onto the mortar round. Won't be throwing it very far due to the weight.

You would be surprised at how many idiots hold a TOP SECRET security clearance in the US military.

Operation Red wings happened the way it did because 4 Seals refused to kill a kid they captured to prevent their location to be compromised. So they let him go, knowing full well that the Taliban soldiers that overwhelmingly outnumbered them would be alerted and go after them.
One officer made the decision. Two wanted the prisoners killed. Prisoners: 2 kids and 1 old man.
Again, the 4th option was to take the prisoners with them until a safe distance away and set them free.
