I never have disliked Rawlings. I saw her as a capable enough fighter making a good decision to fight down at 115lbs on the wider stage. She did not have the skills to make a splash at 125lbs prior to her stint In Invicta but at 115lbs between her boxing, decent clinch game, and relatively decent wrestling I thought she could do fairly wall at 115lbs in Invicta. I recall her characterizing her striking as throwing BOLOs - she knew she needed to improve there too.
Rotten luck with her having an knee injury (and other problems) going into her fight with Mizuki. (That was a somewhat close fight.)
But between the UFC bringing in the 115ers and all of the new fighters there she just fell behind. She has made strides at trying to be a better fighter but it has been an uphill battle. I figured Jessy Jess would beat her down too but Rawlings did okay. I thought it was a solid UD for Jessy Jess though, no a SD, but still decent showing from Rawlings.
Agreed on this next fight with Evans-Smith possibly being her last UFC fight. Rawlings will have trouble with Evans-Smiths wrestling. I do worry that Evans-Smith will have a hard time with her weight cut though. A ray of light for Rawlings, perhaps?
I do think Rawlings would do well in Bellator at 125lbs. I think she can beat about half of their flyweights without too much trouble and be competitive with a decent number of others. There are between 3-5* who ought to be strongly favored over her there.
Hopefully she can make it work out for her.
