Rough night

Taking drugs will just mask the symptoms of GAD and you'll become a zombie drug addict. Run 5 miles a day, eat a carnivore diet, and lay off of the caffeine and alcohol.

Taking drugs will help you become a functioning member of society again. Sit around most of the days til you feel better, eat vegetarian and if you need a drink or two every few hours then have at er, plus a nice cup of Joe in the morning and afternoon will help too...

Woke up at 4 in the morning feeling like I'm not getting oxygen. I was breathing but it's like it's not doing anything. I thought maybe I had covid and my lungs aren't taking enough oxygen or having an anxiety attack. I was trying to decide whether to drive to the hospital or not. Also trying to decide whether to take xanax or not, but I've only had it once and dont want to take it again. I don't wanna risk getting addicted to it. Slowly starting to calm down, I hope it doesn't happen again. What worries me the most is if this is going to be happening every night now? It sucks.
Do you use a CPAP machine?

Bro, make an appointment with a doctor. Call around until you can find one that isn't 1 month away. I've had some scares due to anxiety, and getting the relevant studies done to discard possible medical causes and talking to a specialist, really helped reduce my fear that I was going to spontaneously combust, or something similar. It's also not guaranteed that it's anxiety, so it's smart to get checked, just on the off chance that something is actually going on. In that case, the sooner you address it, the better.

You were right in not taking the Xanax, fuck those things.
Also, don't think about it happening every night, because that thought/stress will trigger them.

Just think of it as an anomaly sir.
I hope you feel better now at least.

I'm so scared to sleep tonight

I got my .5 mg of xanax if I really have to

Maybe you have sleep apnea and you stopped breathing and it took a bit to catch your breath.
I’ve woken like that myself.

I bought an oximeter from Walgreens and its showing 98%

Tell him to get off of you.

Also bought a humidifier. My eyes, nose and mouth are always dry, and my nostrils are always dry

Hyperventilation, so your co2 levels get too low and the more you breath the bigger the shortness of breath will become. When this happens it is better to breath less and to relax. This way your co2 levels will get back to normal and then when you breath you will feel it helps instead of making it worse.
Please explain what you mean by "normal CO2 levels" in the human body.

Also, no one listen to this poster's post until they offer this explanation.

*edit*
This may actually be ok advice, poster explained below and informed my ignant ass

Are you American? Is cost the issue? If not then 100% go see a doctor

I don't understand the question. When in panique people tend to breath more heavily. This means more co2 is going out of the body when exhaling so much and this will give a feeling of a shortness of breath, which will give more panique, more heavily breathing and an even lower co2 level. So to stop this proces and return to normal levels one should stop the heavy breathing.

u got thta shlong covid bd7ro

Again, can you explain what you mean by "normal levels" of CO2 in the body? Are you claiming CO2 has a function in the human body?

I second this, with the caveat that you do not start Googling your symptoms. Get some reassurance it's not something physical that's harming you, and start the process of moving on.

The most hell I've put myself through, was when (years ago) I started having all kinds of crazy physical symptoms(vertigo, tremors, chills, palpitations, etc), and then started trying to research my symptoms.

Again I don't understand your question, because there is no explanation. But I will qoute from pubmed and maybe this is an answer:

"In the human body, carbon dioxide is formed intracellularly as a byproduct of metabolism. CO2 is transported in the bloodstream to the lungs where it is ultimately removed from the body through exhalation. CO2 plays various roles in the human body including regulation of blood pH, respiratory drive, and affinity of hemoglobin for oxygen (O2). Fluctuations in CO2 levels are highly regulated and can cause disturbances in the human body if normal levels are not maintained."

Ah, well color me informed, I was unaware it affected blood pH and causes oxygen to stick to hemoglobin.

Carry on, big brain sherdogger!

Ok I understand, thank you. Yes it has some really important functions. And since TS spoke about anxiety and a shortness of breath it sounds like hyperventilation and this lowers CO2 and causes shortness of breath and more anxiety and so it causes a circle that needs to be broken.
