Romero can't get the next title shot - it's unfair to the rest of the division, especially Rockhold

He came in overweight. That's the bottom line. For him to get a title shot after missing weight is complete lunacy.

He failed to make the weight, why get a title shot at that weight? He needs to prove that he can come in on weight or this will just happen again.

If anything, Rockhold deserves the next title shot, for bravely fighting an insanely over weight opponent. It's almost exactly like when Woodley refused to fight after Hendricks dropped out of the fight and eventually Woodley got the title shot.

He came in overweight cause he took the fight on short notice ya looking goofs

Gay Jesus coming for the belt

It's not the three pound difference the day before the fight, it is the difference it would have made in his performance to cut those last three pounds.

It could very well have been a completely different fight
There is always someone that disagrees. Romero didnt break any rules or contractual agreements.

My opinion on this is that you don't get a title shot if you missed weight in your last fight. Romero should have to fight someone else. As a sport and making it professional, it would just look too bad if Romero screwed up 2 title fights in a row so the UFC just doesn't need to take that chance. Not to mention Romero has a history(on a few occasions) where he wasn't following the rules. I want to see Romero win a fight against a top 10 fighter without any problems and then I would think he is due for a title shot. His best win with no problems was against a past prime Machida. Don't get me wrong, I believe he's an elite fighter in the toughest division and I hardly ever call someone elite. I just think he has more to prove and want to see him beat a top fighter in their prime with no controversy.

He didn't agree to make weight in his contract?
No it would have been agreed to fight for 185 pound title. If a fighter doesnt make weight a percentage goes to the opponent, thirty percent in romeros case (maybe ten percent per pound?) and should romero win the interim title would not be his. This would be contractual and within the 'rules'.

Incorrect. A new contract had to be signed, news reports were discussing the negotiations of said contract which apparently went on until 2:30am.

The contract was for a title fight at 185. Romero did not honor the terms of that contract and a separate agreement was made to save the fight.

Exactly. A separate agreement was made, obliged by both parties.

It should be noted that the UFC hasn't given a flying fuck about what was "fair" for a long time.

Especially when it comes to title shots.

Money, or their idea of what they think will make money is the deciding factor.

We can debate what is fair or unfair, but it would be delusional to think that it has any bearing on UFC matchmaking or UFC policies in general.

After beating gatekeeper Brunson? He got made to look amateur by Whittaker not too long ago.. he needs another good win.
Fought with a torn pec muscle against Whittaker.

Arguably beat Yoel. Arguably beat Rockhold. Wrecked Brunson (#7 ranked, hardly a gatekeeper). Easily beat Mousasi.

Hendo got a fucking shot. Why can’t Jacare?

"Insanely over weight"
Come on dude it was 3 pounds, and the guy is 40 years old, never missed before.
Most important he is clearly #1 contender, which any real fan wants fights to be based on merit.

Bro someone call ts a waahmbulance

Same shit

Why would Rockhold deserve a title shot off of a loss to the guy that beat his opponent when he was on weight?

For the second time and then what do we do? If Romero is the consensus #2 MW in the world and he loses a second time to Whittaker, what happens if he keeps beating other contenders? Hard to justify a 3rd fight for a title when Romero has already lost twice. Better to make Romero take one more fight to make up for him missing weight
That's not how things work there's no 3rd fight, no Yoel vs contenders after this if he suffers another loss, he'll only fight people far from a title like Wonderboy or Benavidez. He will only ever be relative once Whittaker is dethroned.

Also him taking one more fight changes nothing more if he wins again.
