Islam literally said he wanted the fight. they offered it to him and he declined. when was the last time Tony and Conor got offered a fight and declined after saying they'd fight the opponent?

The reason why this doesn't make sense is because he actually hadn't earned the title shot. He was supposed to fight Dariush, got out of that on a technicality and then refused to fight someone else.

Taking elite fighters with no notice to train for that style is risky, having to make the cut again on short notice is hard on the body. Don't blame him not taking it.

Usually fighters stepping up on short notice are looking for a shot at a fighter they normally wouldn't get a chance to fight and a bigger payday than normal. Neither of these are true for islam currently.

Islam said that he was sent a contract at night with a deadline in the morning. There was some detail that he wanted changed or negotiated, but during that night nobody was reachable, and by the morning it was basically set and the flght fell through.

In 2016, they even made Khabib sign the deal to fight with Alvarez for the title and then they gave the fight to Conor instead.
