What's crazy is they've been promoting this new show of his that either came out or is coming out this week, and I remember thinking to myself, "dang, I didn't know John Madden was still alive."

But definitely a legend of American football. Probably the most recognizable figure of the sport based solely off the Madden video game franchise. And yes, he was captain obvious at times, but I used to love when he would commentate and use the drawing tool and say, "BOOM!" Dude is a classic.

RIP... loved the guy as a coach and commentator.

I think I played one of the first Madden's too on my Commodore 64. You could create your own plays and run them. That's what I did most in the game.
