It amazes me that a PO can actually say something like that and still have a job. I think the traditional way of doing background checks has failed LE in the U.S. This is an assumption on my part, but I believe some people pursue LE careers for all the wrong reasons, and I think we see this phenemenon play itself out on a regular basis.
 
One of the few bright spots about this whole situation is that the trend of militarized police departments is finally getting wide spread media coverage. And people are starting to ask questions like why is this necessary? How did they get all this shit and what is the relationship between the DoD and local PDs? Where is this trend leading us?

People are even making connections to the broader context of the rising surveillance state and the war on drugs. Hopefully this stays on people's radar in the future.

I'll cosign on this.

There are some black people our there that will use their race in order to justify or attempt to excuse their behavior. I see no problem with condemning them and I feel that they should be condemned. That is not racism, it's calling a piece of shit a piece of shit. I'm extremely outspoken on systemic racism, but I do not ignore this subset of people that does exist because they hurt the credibility of blacks that actually do experience systemic racism. It's like any other douche in any other party/group/movement.

I think these looters and rioters need to be held accountable for what they've done, though I do also believe that a serious dialogue needs to occur ASAP about this police state and especially in regards to them not playing well with minorities. Justified action is one thing, senseless killing is another thing entirely. Call all the stats you want, but the perception (amongst blacks) that black life isn't worth shit in America is out there and growing. Go ahead and ignore it if you wish. Probably not the best idea though.

That is good news. The establishment media won't provide answers, but people looking for them is a good thing.

I'd like for anyone to watch this video and not wonder if there is some truth to it when viewing all the changes in society we have witnessed over the last 30 years or so. It's an hour long, but it has some of the answers people will be looking for.

Yeah, but only in incidents like Ruby Ridge and Waco. There are a few actual Libertarians in the WR who find this situation disturbing. For the most part, many of the so called anti-government conservatives in America are on board with government oppression so long as it's not directed at a fine American family like the Weavers.

I agree. Living in Stockton, I see it a lot. I hate to say, however, the people that tend to be involved in the "us vs. them" tend to be less than stellar in terms of character.

Exactly. For instance, if this cop shot the unarmed gentleman because his door hit him in the face and he got embarrassed, obviously he's a piece of shit. Now, I don't know the story there yet so I am not passing judgement (nor will I go out and protest while I wait for the details)... but I can see these dirt bags behavior as it unfolds. Easier to pass judgement.

Oh I'm sure there are some real class acts.. :)

The media can help push this divide too though across society. Even just showing only bad run ins with police and not good run ins will start to shape peoples perceptions over time and increase the level of mistrust even among people who have never personally had a bad experience with the police.

Lots of factors.

I agree with you. The problem is bad conduct by a police officer is what is juicy and what sells. The cop that brought the drowned kid back with CPR a few weeks back didn't exactly make major headlines.

A cop saving a kids life is a cop doing his job, a cop possibly murdering an unarmed civilian is and should be much much bigger news. Doesn't mean the cop saving someone shouldn't be applauded but it is his job and isn't as an important story as a person hired to protect the public killing them. One is a nice happy story of a good cop doing his job the other is one that effects the whole of society.
 
So which is the most aggressive and militaristic PD in America?
