You've watched to many movies. They idea of a strong man holding his ground with a handful of bullets against a mob is a myth of the American Western.

Conceptually I'd distinguish mobs from looters in that mobs are a group of pissed off people with a common goal. Looters are people who take advantage of chaotic situations in order to cause random damage or enrich themselves. If a mob is coming for you you might very well be fucked. Looters will more than likely spread out because it's hard for them all to steal the same shit.

With that said, there is a coverage matter at play. If you're one guy trying to guard a Wal-Mart you're in trouble. Two guys covering the family hardware store and succeeding is perfectly plausible (some broken windows notwithstanding).

When a rioting mob hears gunshots, they might draw back for a bit, but they end up getting what they want until faced with superior force.

The video WoW posted is of several men armed with rifles on the rooftop with their store completely barricaded by heavy shit. I would agree if you have all that going for you, your chances of success are better than one shopowner with a handgun or shotgun facing down a mob in tight quarters.

"The police chief, Thomas Jackson, said that minutes before the shooting on Saturday, the officer and the young man, Michael Brown, had engaged in a violent confrontation, in which the officer was hit in the face."

Still not much info, and maybe nitpicking, but minutes before? If that much time had passed between physical confrontation and the shooting I'm curious what the justification will be.

Agreed. Having a gun doesn't guarantee any success.

I wholeheartedly believe that there is plenty of legitimate civic unrest among the people in Ferguson. I think some (for whatever reasons) care far more than others. The good people out there are peacefully protesting because they want their voices to be heard and hopefully for things to change. Some support will be more casual. Then you've got spectators to the spectacle. Those people just show up to see what's happening. Then you've got agitators and opportunists. Those people will throw rocks and do things to escalate and when it does they will take advantage. These would be the looters, not the people who gathered with signs.

That's my (generalized) theory anyway. People who really care about their community won't suddenly start stealing and burning everything in sight. The good people GTFO when the SHTF. So in the end it looks like protesters turned to rioters and looters when that's not the case.

I hate them for the havoc they are wreaking on their own community and the hypocritical threats they are making. Don't like Jones cause of his antics, never cared for Silva's cocky attitude, didn't like Shad before he got Machida'd but since then he's become a stand up guy that I routinely root for and Cormier is cool as fuck.

You're allowed to dislike peoples actions without it being racist.
