Ring Walks and Dubstep

Anyone using the term 'brostep' should be taken out into the streets and beaten.

There is no fucking such thing as real dubstep, and I've been listening to Burial and dub in general for the last decade.

Dubstep is defined by a tempo / arrangement / rhythm. If you're producing a tune at 140bpm with a half step snare / EDM focused percussion that builds into a drop (doesn't even have to have wobbles) which repeats 2x times before entering a midsection that builds into another drop (again, doesn't have to have wobbles) you have produced a Dubstep song.

Holy e-peen, Batman!

"Oh look at me and how much I know about dubstep"

There is no "taste" when it comes to dubstep.

Music is energy, that's all. Vibrations, frequencies and rhythms.

Dubstep signifies an interest in low end frequency and bass music. Ironically, it's the music of choice for deaf people as it's the only genre of music they can appreciate due to the vibrations and low end minus-80hz frequencies. In fact, they even have special headsets and speakers designed for deaf people so they can enjoy bass music.

Regardless....I'm classically trained in piano, guitar and can play a shitload of instruments on a whim. I can assure you dubstep has it's place in the music world, and there is a considerable amount of taste and depth to the genre itself (much like any EDM genre which is highly underrated and often misunderstood by music casuals who pretend to know shit when they really don't).

I agree with what you're saying but I'm talking about the style of music that mixing in electro house stuff like Skrillex / Feed me, etc. Also the whole "building to a drop thing" is only somewhat true. That's more of a newer thing with dubstep because when you look at Skream, Benga, Burial, they rarely even do that.

exactly.

I pretty sure only angst'y teenagers say "brostep"

More e-peen stuff.

It's just the mainstream stuff that sucks then, right?

It's music theory Sherlock, has nothing to do with dubstep, it just can be 'applied' to dubstep.

My apologies.

"Oh look at me and how much I know about music that no one cares about but me".

Well, the building of the drop can be heavily progressive. And some Burial tunes essentially start right into what would technically be considered the drop, and they let it play throughout. So yeah you're right it's only somewhat-true.

Builds / drops are odd. It doesn't have to have that really energetic and almost comical sound design of Skrillex / Feed Me. Most people associate dubstep / drops with Skrillex (naturally, him being the most successful / famous) and they misunderstand the entire point of the genre because they can't get over the functionality of a single producer.

My apologies.

It's quite alright. Apology accepted, but, please realize what you should be apologizing for is coming off as a total nitwit in this entire thread. It's ironic you'd say I'm stroking my e-peen because all the information I provided was in hopes of swaying your claim that you think something has no 'taste' simply because you don't understand it.

Goodluck "Dr".... :icon_lol:

It always astounds me at how much people care about a genre than they dont like.

I dont like metal so I dont go into metal threads and talk about how bad it is.

Tons of people like metal, that is a fact. They like something that I dont care for. There is nothing wrong with that.

If they enjoy their music, more power to them.

It just blows my mind that a person would use energy talking about a genre they dont like and dont listen to. Its crazy to me.

I'm in my 20s and the only people who like scrubstep are tone deaf retards.

Thank you very much. I'm 41 and have been listening to EDM since I was 15, and dubstep sounds absolutely awful to me.
I think I've heard a track by bassnectar that was pretty damn good and maybe one or two by Klaypex that I enjoyed.

The bolded part is very true. I only use the term brostep because it's the most recognized term to describe that "style" of dubstep. I'm on sherdog and it seems a lot of people think dubstep is nothing but bleep bloops wub wubs anyway so I don't have much to work with.

Pray tell what EDM you 'do' like?

Dubstep haters....Discovered Noisia yet?

Come'on, that's sick as fuck! Listen to that production, sound design, etc. Do you guys ever go out to clubs? Ever been dancing? :P

Come on britches, we're settin' you free!!!!

Oh you did that thing where you take part of my post and responded as if it were the whole post? How cute....

You were stroking your e-peen, you know it, I know it and everyone who read that post knows it. You can try to cover it up by using the "swaying your claim" line, but I guarantee you that dubstep will still sound like crap even after reading your post.

So I guess you failed on that one.....

So I guess you failed on that one.....

Enlightenment isn't something I can provide for you....It's only something I can suggest.

Who cares about dubstep, it's just a genre of music, it signifies something far greater in theory. It's bass music, huge formations of sound that are sent through your body via; gigantic monitors and speakers. Never before in the history of the world did we have the technology or creative instinct to develop such a bizarre and unadulterated sound. It's not about melodic structure (well some of it is), it's about percussive elements and bass movements.

If it's something you've never experienced, I'd suggest loosening up a bit, taking that stick out of your ass and attending a show. Have a few drinks, talk to some pretty girls, live a little.... :icon_chee
