Rickson Gracie vs Rolls Gracie

My coach is a friend of Rickson, he is the biggest Rickson fan ever

And he says Rolls was what 'created' Rickson

And to people saying Rolls beat Rickson

Really?? Haha that was sparring and when Rickson was a blue Rolls was already a blackbelt

Anyone can fight in that style, you just have to train for it. You may not be the most explosive guy, or the strongest, but if you have good cardio you can go at guys hard and break them with conditioning. Wrestlers do it all the time, and most of them don't start out physical beasts, they make themselves that way. I'm not the most physically talented guy, but when I was really training judo hard, I'd beat guys just by going at them longer and harder than they could handle. Royce could have done the same thing if he'd trained for it. That's why wrestlers dominated when they first got into MMA. No one could handle their pace.

you can train all you want man, but if someone is 50 60 70 pounds bigger stronger than you, you aint ragdolling anyone.

Im not saying Rickson beat Rolls

Its training, nobody loses

Or did you mean people were ironic when they were saying who won?

Its Sherdog man, the line between irony and trolling is sharp

Lol, I take it English is not your first language?

Hah its not, I am brazillian. But my english is OK

Cant same the same about my brain. What did I miss?

Let’s not forget though that Rickson was a kid while Rolls was already a well established adult here. It’s a real shame that Rolls died. For sure Rickson learned a lot from Rolls but I think it’s unfair to try and compare one to the other from this footage.

With that said, this is the holy grail of BJJ videos.

Rickson claims to be 400-0 or something and apparently that includes sparring matches.

People were saying he "lost" because it looked like he was getting rolled up in the video.

Oh, so I got the "irony"

The thing is Rickson didnt count straight up sparring sessions, he counts gym challenges, judo comps, and such things. Still lame, though

And sure he was dominated a lot of times by Rolls, Rolls taught him a lot and helped to build Ricksons style

400-0 is, I repeat, Rickson being Rickson

Let's face it, you can only fight that aggressively if you are physically talented. Like Rolls was. No wonder that guys from his lineage (Alliance and its offshoots) were known in their early days for their speed and pace.

Yeah, but didn't the 1st line in the vid actually refer to this postively as being relative? Something like, 'you are only fast if you're faster than the other guy.'

I don't think that Rolls can be judged as if he was aggressive or not, that way. For instance, he attacked in stand when he thought he could. Royce does similar, I'm sure, but because he hasn't done alot of stand he won't see or feel as much opportunity.

Back in the mid 90's I asked Royce, who was the last person to tap rickson, he replied rolls.
rolls was an adult and rickson was in his teens when this happened.

And apparently that's Fabio Santos and Alvaro Romano along the back wall during the vid. Still love the Rolls stache!
