There's bound to be a thread on this somewhere.

Just wondering what the consensus on the show is here? Do you think it's dumb or smart? Do you think only intelligent people can truly understand the show and that there is a disconnect between its fanbase with one bunch not understanding the deeper jokes. Seemingly there's a debate only smart people enjoy it

I rewatch this series a lot as I always spot different things. It was going downhill until the final episode of the last season and currently.

Two of my favorite sketches are from this season: vampires hunt in clearings and Mr Frundles

I like it in small doses. I tape it and watch it later; too much yelling, hootin' & hollarin' in the show that late at night for me to watch it live.

I thought the claymation Halloween special was really cool. I dug it big time.

I’m about halfway through season 2. It’s fun show, I enjoy it and plan to eventually get through it.

Kids sometimes watch it (even though they probably shouldn't). So, it doesn't seem like it is limited to just "smart people."

It's really good but also kind of overrated. I think futurama is the superior scifi/comedy animated show.

Do you have advanced degrees in astrophysics and philosophy like your average Rick and Morty fans, who also have at least 150 in IQ? Otherwise you won't understand the show

The "are you smart" thing has become a meme, ignore it. Problem is some rick and morty fans can be very obnoxious.

The show itself is great, hilarious, witty, smart and stupid humor. It works.

the first season was top tier, been a bit up and down since then but still good.

Exactly. You need to have a PhD in Physics to fully grasp the humor of a guy turning into a walking pickle and pulling a "Die Hard."

That was joke episode and the running theme was Rick going to outlandish lengths to avoid responsibility.

The Die Hard one was a side throwaway and the Morty verse deals with existential philosophy. Well the hole show does in general i.e an alien heister who built his career around the study of Die Hard ... or how we're meant to laugh at an alien species who are afraid of nudity when in fact that's us, humans are afraid of nudity.

What's more, since it is quite popular now, people who know it's not smart pretend it's smart so they aren't the only one saying that the emperor has no clothes. Every discussion about this show is usually about how clever it is and, maybe I'm the dumb one, but it all just seems so damned on the nose, and it's rare I see a fanbase so concerned with their show being perceived as smart.

I’ve never watched the show mainly bc their fans annoy the crap out of me bc they act like it’s the greatest show in the world and they are somehow superior to everyone else bc it’s their favorite show. If you don’t Like the show they act like “well you just don’t get it like I do. It’s very intelligent and smart humor with layers “

Well.. yea I guess they just don't get it. Some might say south park is just fart jokes too in a way, and its great and hilarious.
