Television Rick and Morty

I’ve never watched the show mainly bc their fans annoy the crap out of me bc they act like it’s the greatest show in the world and they are somehow superior to everyone else bc it’s their favorite show. If you don’t Like the show they act like “well you just don’t get it like I do. It’s very intelligent and smart humor with layers “

I mean, it's one thing to just not like a show. Obviously it's not gonna appeal to everyone.

But if you're one of those people, and I don't mean you specifically, who goes around saying "It's a dumb show for dumb people pretending to be smart.." etc etc you are really just as bad as the idiots saying you need to be a genius to get it. It's neither of those things.

Well.. yea I guess they just don't get it. Some might say south park is just fart jokes too in a way, and its great and hilarious.

South Park at its best is unmatched imo when it comes to getting genius level comedic writing out of really juvenile premises. Stuff like good times with weapons, imaginationland, night of the living homeless, etc.

As good as rick and Morty is, it cant touch south park yet imo

Oh yea I agree with that, south park has been quality for so long. Rick and morty isn't even close.

But i'm just making the comparison, some people will just see the juvenile premises or fark jokes and dismiss it, they'll miss out on what makes it so good.

One of my favorite shows.

Yup I agree that South Park has more intelligent writing.

Rick and Morty is fairly clever though. But once you accept the premise of other dimensions then you basically have limitless possibilities for the show.

If anything you have to pay close attention and have a good memory to enjoy the show to its full extent, because they make sooooo many references to past episodes.

but paying close attention and having a good memory isn’t the same as having intelligence.

There's bound to be a thread on this somewhere.

Just wondering what the consensus on the show is here? Do you think it's dumb or smart? Do you think only intelligent people can truly understand the show and that there is a disconnect between its fanbase with one bunch not understanding the deeper jokes. Seemingly there's a debate only smart people enjoy it

I rewatch this series a lot as I always spot different things. It was going downhill until the final episode of the last season and currently.

Two of my favorite sketches are from this season: vampires hunt in clearings and Mr Frundles

It's dumb but fun.

Oh yeah for sure.

It isn't a bad show. There is no real plot though.

That was joke episode and the running theme was Rick going to outlandish lengths to avoid responsibility.

The Die Hard one was a side throwaway and the Morty verse deals with existential philosophy. Well the hole show does in general i.e an alien heister who built his career around the study of Die Hard ... or how we're meant to laugh at an alien species who are afraid of nudity when in fact that's us, humans are afraid of nudity.
They are all "joke" shows.

Think i stopped watching midway into the 3rd season, i'll get back into it eventually.

I liked it at times it's hit or miss for me and the creators just want to do drunken animated improv in lieu of an actual plot. The creators have this thing where they resent the fans being interested in their show though and wanting a plot. When they finally resolved a plot they set up years earlier half the episode was a fourth wall breaking "fuck you for wanting serialized stories" to the fans. Typically creatives appreciate people consuming and caring about their content. And their fans back them 100% acting like whatever they do it's gold. I actually like these creators from Community btw. Saw none of this shit back then. Community was incredible.

Season 2 was the peak IMO and the show had an existential charm that has since been lost. Part of it might be Rick is a Mary Sue. He went from a genius grandpa overcoming various challenges to a nearly unbeatable god. It's not even him being a toxic asshole because it turns out he's faking it and is actually not evil but that doesn't change that for most of the show he's acting like he is and it's kinda insufferable. I think them setting up everything falling apart at the end of Season 2 and Rick overcoming it instantly really changed the shows dynamic for the worse.

Another thing I hate is pickle rick and people who act like that episode was the Citizen Kane of animated TV. It was just a dumb episode I never ever want to hear someone say "I'm pickle rick" ever again thinking they are making a philosophical point about something. That was the thing the toxic fanbase did that angered me the most. I don't know why it angered me it just did.

I quite enjoy it, one of my favorite animated series but lately Solar Opposites even tops it for me.

I dont get the hate from people claiming it's too pompous. It's without doubt one of the most clever and multi layered cartoons out there. The fact the fans sniff their own farts claiming they are big brains for following the logic is neither here nor there.

South park is a better show though purely down to how razor sharp and cutting the satire is. They seem to nail it year after year.
