Throwback Retro Robbery: BJ Penn vs Caol Uno 2

Can someone tell me about Uno's fighting style? I remember seeing a dirty boxing instructional vid (that was really good) from Uno on youtube about a decade ago and I've been confused since then because I remember him as a grappler (competing in ADCC and his embarassing striking fail against Penn).

EDIT: maybe it was a Jens Pulver instructional. That makes more sense.

EDIT 2: Well, now I know what Wajutsu is

EDIT 3: it was a Jens Pulver dirty boxing instructional

EDIT 4: what the fuck

He's a less dramatic/entertaining, just bleed version of Genki Sudo.

yeah...this is why guys like you just dont understand MMA before 2015. Uno was the highest rated LW in the world at one point, and objectively a good fighter.

He also crushed him in the first fight, so there you go. Imagine not knowing anything about 2000s MMA and then pretending that everyone were just cans.

Pulver, Uno, Gomi were all the #1 LWs at different points in their career and they all lost to Penn eventually (Pulver beat Penn very early in his career and it was competitive).

He beat every LW he ever fought until Frankie Edgar...who most people thought he beat the first fight. So he was literally unbeatable at LW for like a full decade. good job though.
They were top fighters.. for their time.

All of them including BabyJay would be crushed by current LWs and even one generation before.

your logic makes no sense. Khabib barely beat Gleison Tibau...
I remember when Uno fought Tibau and people were furious at the size difference. Completely forgot about it until I opened this thread.

People do under estimate how good Uno was. His performance in the BJ rematch was impressive all things considered.

My favorote uno moment was Joachim hansen hitting him with the sweetest knee

One of BJs less memorable fights, lots of wrestling in the clinch. I thought BJ won this fight.

Din Thomas was another fighter that could take claim to being #1 (until BJ KOd him)

Imagine fighting the 3 best LWs in the world in your 1st 4 fights

Should have just knocked him out in the first minute like he did the first time they fought.

If you wanna be a fuckin fighter you don't leave it in the hands of the judges kid.
Exactly. He already had the blueprint. He knew what he needed to do, but B.J. is B.J....
