Rumored Report: UFC 317 Topuria-Oliveira flops, Sold less than Poirier-Holloway for BMF

Wouldn't be the most shocking thing since I'm pretty sure the largest parts of both men's fanbases (Spain and Brazil) do not have the PPV model.

I know that's the case for Brazil and the rest of SA, don't know if it's the same in Spain but I wouldn't be surprised.

Not only that, but most fans were pissed they weren't getting Topuria vs. Islam and weren't happy with the UFC's consolation match up.

International fight week is usually a stacked card, on paper is was nothing special.

Plus they gave the shot to Oliveira instead of Arman to basically hand Topuria the belt.

Live in Spain. You are correct. Any UFC ppv I've seen or even heard about anyone watching here is done through larger Spanish sports broadcasting companies and is almost always added-in/tossed onto a bunch of other sports and packages.

Which. . . I don't really blame them. Who wants to be regularly (or ever) purchasing for 90 euros a sporting event that normally runs from 3-6+AM Sunday morning?

So you're saying that only idiots buy PPVs.
I mean they just shut down a major provider of streams so technically encouraging people to stream might be a bad idea in the long run.

Not that PPV buys matter to me but I thought this was interesting. Luke Thomas says trustworthy insiders told him Topuria-Oliveira sold way worse than expected and in fact less than Poirier-Holloway for the BMF title.

What do yall think? Do you believe this and was this the final nail in the coffin for PPVs? To me Topurias starpower always felt a bit overinflated and that became increasingly obvious when he magically gained a million Instagram followers in less than a day on some random day leading up to the fight when nothing noteworthy even happened.

I think Topuria's legions of fans were probably collaborating on a new nickname and forgot to buy the....

Oh shit, wait, Topuria gives himself nicknames? Then I got nothing. What a shock that a guy who has to name himself can't get anyone to give a fuck. Thanks for the 2 mins of mat-time in 2025 champ.

Every PPV has been a flop the last year or so

When Conor started selling PPVs (2015) they were $49.99 SD, freshly gone up to $59.99 for HD.
Today to watch a single PPV, you need to pay $79.99 + ESPN+ $12/mo.

The ppv model is dying, and rightfully so. The price for a single PPV has almost doubled. Does anyone feel the product is twice as good?

Conor McGregor's rise to the title was unlike anything in the UFC, ever. The interviews and press conferences he did were massive. He also beat some real dudes to make his run, Holloway, Siver, Brandao, Mendes. Its hard to compare, Ilia has not been promoted half as much as McGregor was and McGregor hardly needed the help. But, Conor also had major catalysts like Diaz and Khabib, Ilia hasn't anyone like that so far. Plus, PPV is dying, they were offering major boxing promotions 1/20th what they did the UFC to get them on streaming platforms...PPVs aren't what they used to be and will never be again.
Topuria is just as exciting a fighter as Conor is, but no one in the sport has the ability and the balls to cause as much schenanigans as Conor does. You have to be half crazy to do the shit Conor did. Only Muhammad Ali also had that kinda ability.

I for one am shocked that 2 more popular fighters outsold the other 2 they are more popular than.....

People wanted to see Topuria vs Makhachev that is why it declined and did not sold much
That is the biggest fight UFC can make right now.

It's really wild how much the cost has gone up in just 10 years.

They barely promote the fights these days, they could only live off the brand name for so long.

Who cares bout some 5'5 guy throwing hands.

I do.

But not the non UFC heads.

His whole charisma is fake.

Reem bringing a hammer was real. Authentic.

Ilia eatig rosses and drinking tee stinks of commercial marketing and branding.

Conor Mc Georgia from Spain.

That's because nobody cares about a Georgian who identifies as a Spaniard manlet
