Report: Stipe Miocic vs Cain Velasquez being targeted for UFC 216

Gonzaga tried taking him down a fair number of times in their match and got him down once or twice, but he didn't stay down long. He displayed a rather pretty sprawl in that one, did Stipe. But Gonzaga isn't exactly a wrestling specialist now is he.

Beltran got him down once (overbalancing him after Miocic threw a knee) and kept him down with some gnp for maybe 15 seconds. JDS did a gorgeous trip and had Stipe on the mat for a whopping half a minute. But neither is a patch on Cain when it comes to the Grind.

So yeah, this would be a very interesting experiment.

Cain will take him down.. not sure if he keeps him down but he will go down many many times and cardio will decide that fight.

Very interesting fight, and that's what's most important. Will cain be able to impose his pressure wrestling game on a guy with a wrestling background like Stipe? Both have shown very good boxing, but who's better? Stipe has a good size advantage. Will Cain show more of the funky shit he used against Browne?

Like lots of people, I have a problem giving Cain the shot due to his injury track record and to a lesser extent his recent MMA record. But the HW division is so thin that there's no one else.

I think they should have Overeem fight on the undercard as a backup in case Cain gets injured. People seem to have forgotten that he almost KO'd Stipe last year. Overeem vs Tybura or Oleinik or Johnson or Blaydes.

They better have 5 back up HW replacements for Cains bum ass.

I hope he gets KOd then retires.
A strain on the HW division.

Cain will take him down.. not sure if he keeps him down but he will go down many many times and cardio will decide that fight.

No doubt. Cain took down Brock ffs, a 280lb D1 national champ and 2x finalist. He can absolutely take Stipe down.

I'm looking forward

Lol at "real champ".He's 1-1 in the last fours years,in his loss he was badly beaten and his only win in that time is Browne who's on a long losing streak.
Werdum beat Cain decisively and made him go tap-tap.
Stipe KO'd Werdum in one round and then defended his belt twice with first round finishes.

Altitude, injuries, and ring rust, buddeh. Those are all real things.

Fuck ya! This is the HW match up I've been wanting to see.

Cool, cain't wait for Ngannou to step in for Cain.

It was quite humorous how Cain himself refused to believe that once again he was forced to pullout from a fight vs Werdum last December.
It's like his fate was to become this top fighter who fights once in every few years and rest of the time heals an injury.

Nevertheless if he actually makes it to the fight then we should be in for a treat because top skilled HW's fighting each other is pretty rare these days. We only get these level kind of fights like 1-4 times a year. Also Derrick Lewis could have had the shot after he beat Browne but it was not meant to be...At least not yet.

If Cain wins then RIP HW div for another 3-5 years

What do you mean. I enjoyed watched Cain Vs Big Nog, Cain vs JDS once every 18 months

I don't see how Cain hasn't come to the conclusion that sports aren't his thing and gotten a 9-5 job.

Unhealthy Cain murks any version of Fedor.

Cain doesnt look great when he comes back from long injuries but if hes 100% he will beat anyone at HW

This would be insanity.

The man pulls out of a title fight and a number 1 contender's fight back-to-back and is rewarded with a title shot?

What kind of logic is this?

I like Cain, I really do.. But he doesn't deserve a title shot.

So true if huge. Cain is the guy to beat for Stipe to cement himself as the best. I will be rooting for him, but I still think [healthy[ Cain is the best ever. Stipe's free to prove me wrong, of course. Let them fight.

Lol DC and Cain getting retired within months of each other. Perfect.
