Reyes fights people who weigh 40lbs to 50lbs less than Ngannou... I swear people who do not train have no idea the importance of athletic ability and strength. Ngannou had Gane scared in terms of close distance and afraid of the "stand and bang" exchanges as such Gane mamaged the distance striking and set ups and peppering shots far more and more carefully than he did vs other inferior striking opponents compared to Ngannou. As such Ganes caution and heistancy allowed Ngannou chances to albeit rare to catch Gane on the end of one of his set ups or withdraws and to set up a takedown. The takedowns he got also were part skill and part strength. The most important takedown the slam was the result of a failed kick Gane threw after he got accurately timed by Ngannou.

anyone that trains can see with their own eyes how much more skilled and natural Reyes is with wrestling... Gane has fought a lot of big guys sure but all of them were strikers including Ngannou, not a single credible mma grappler on his resume

Jones also want 3 of 9 against a one arm Ovince Saint Preux. He looked slow and lethargic af in that fight, was breathing heavy. OSP didn't even get a training camp for that fight if I recall.

Francis out wrestled Stipe in the 2nd fight, that should be the one you refer to. When you're as new to MMA as Gane and Francis are, you can make massive improvements in a very short period of time (Francis vs Stipe 2 for example).

Not arguing that Ngannou didn't improve his wrestling, but Stipe really looked bad. Less muscle mass, he looked smaller than LHWs like Jan.

We'll see.
I can't agree or disagree because I haven't seen fighters making improvements in such a short time.
So... we'll see who wins. I am rooting for Gane, but his performance vs Ngannou, on the ground, was not even UFC level, that's why I believe Jones will win.

And yeah, I know Jones looked bad in his last fights. He couldn't even finish Smith. He lost to Reyes clearly. He clearly didn't beat Santos, that was pretty much a draw.
And all these 3 guys are not world beaters or even champion material fighters.
But I just see him winning. I hope I am wrong!

It wasnt so much to do with improvements unless you're talking about a gameplan and managing cardio. IN the first fight Francis blew his wad totally in the first round. He was completely gassed and any decent wrestler could have held him down.

How did Jones go with his takedowns vs Smith, Reyes and Santos. If i remember correctly they were all quite close. Some of those guys are mw's. Gane is a different prospect. Having a 120kg bloke on top of you is a little different.

I dont think Jones made attempts to take down Smith or Santos. If he did maybe once between them both?

Smith and Santos were and are still fighting LHW. If we are saying they were 225lbs MW's in the LHW division, then DC was a HW fighting in the LHW division, and Jones took him down at will.
