Media Reminder: Jon Jones Could Not Keep Down Dominic Reyes (vid)

Reyes has much better TDD than Gane does

giphy.gif

Reyes fights people who weigh 40lbs to 50lbs less than Ngannou... I swear people who do not train have no idea the importance of athletic ability and strength. Ngannou had Gane scared in terms of close distance and afraid of the "stand and bang" exchanges as such Gane mamaged the distance striking and set ups and peppering shots far more and more carefully than he did vs other inferior striking opponents compared to Ngannou. As such Ganes caution and heistancy allowed Ngannou chances to albeit rare to catch Gane on the end of one of his set ups or withdraws and to set up a takedown. The takedowns he got also were part skill and part strength. The most important takedown the slam was the result of a failed kick Gane threw after he got accurately timed by Ngannou.

Jan absolutely shredded Reyes on the feet, did way more damage to him in 2 rounds then Jones did in 5.

Sure but that’s a single fight in a career. How do the 3 fighters careers compare?

What happened with common opponents

Stop it. He didn't even hurt him. Jan and Jiri ruined his chin. Mostly Jiri because Reyes was still eating shots well until the spinning elbow changed his life
5 rounds from the GOAT turned his chin from stone to slime!

Takedown = Oh my God, he just won the fight with that great takedown!
Reversal = Yawn. Means nothing. Now my guy can score another takedown!
I'd rather watch real freestyle wrestling, like I did the other day when I re-watched the great Schultz brothers win Gold Medals!

Yes, Cyril couldn't beat Francis on one knee but do you think he hasn't been practicing

Alex also took Jones down

What happens when Jon can't keep Cyril down for 2+ rounds

Things are about to get interesting again

Damn, the Reyes who KOed Weidman and gave Jones the fight of his life looked like champion material. Sad to see how quickly he went downhill.

Prime Reyes was better than Gane.

Wrong

Maybe but Gane is bigger, hits harder and is a cleaner striker than Reyes. Anyone who can finish Tuivasa can hurt Jon badly.

Dominic maybe able to stuff more TDs overall but Cyril only needs to stuff a few

Chris Weidman pushing Reyes into the cage means nothing to me

Reyes dropped Jon, Cyril can definitely hurt him

For real. Reyes is a much faster, more agile athlete than gane will ever be.

Ok and? Gane is the cleaner striker with better footwork who fights and finishes heavier opponents.

The hate for Jonny is leading to some dumb threads.

I am a Jon Jones fan. Just know Gane poses a real threat.

Still better for Jon than fighting Francis. Patient Francis was the nightmare matchup for Jon Jones.

By JJ last few opponents before he left, I thought the tide was catching up either due to lack of training or skill wise.

So everybody calling Francis "D1 Ngannou" after what he did to Gane was a term of endearment and not a condemnation of Gane's atrocious TDD against a guy who isn't at all a wrestler?

Something to consider: Gane's karate stance leaves him more open to the single leg and ankle pick, something Jones should try and exploit

Reminder: Cyril Gane couldn't get back up after being taken down by Francis Nggannou.

He could keep Saint Preux down as well, that's a one arm OSP.

Reyes has really good tdd... but obviously Gane will come in prepared for this too. Gane also has the footwork to AND reach to keep proper distance. I just hope this isn't a staring contest, as both know what their strengths are going to be and are very cerebral.

Jones grew up with big siblings. The brotherly beatings they gave each other im sure jones will be fine at a higher weight.
