Remind me again why is ground knees illegal?

Numerous reasons plus its so easy to knee someone in the face when they're in the ground it makes mma more of a brawl then an actual match its more about who can get to the cheapest sleaziest shot quicker than whos actually more skilled.

mma fans don't give two shits about fighters FIGURES bunch of soft cheating eating basement dwelling bozos talking tough online

MMA is still relatively new so people don't know the long term effects. Some fighters show cases of long term damage. Gary Good ridge and Spencer Fisher come to mind. Crocop and Mark Hunt also talked about the effects it's had on them.

I'd imagine it'd be even worse if soccer kicks, head stomps, and knees to the head of grounded opponents are legal.

Because it’s a great strategy to use if you’re losing and don’t want to get kneed in the head legally.

One FC has both knees and kicks on the ground and nobody has died yet. As long as fighters know they can be hit in those spots, they know to protect themselves. The issue is when they think there is a rule preventing something and the other fighter does it anyway. If knees on the ground were allowed in the Aljo/Yan fight, Aljo doesn’t stay on his knees in that spot.

Is it because it’s “dangerous” or is it because they want to soften “cagefighting” rules to make UFC go mainstream and get everyone to watch it?

It should be completely legal.

Knee to the head is the most powerful strike you can deliver in a cage fight.
Looking at those clips the downed fighter can be caught in a position where they can't defend themselves at all and it's hard to see exactly when they go out, so most of them look like late stoppages where the loser ate an unnecessary knee or two.

I'm sure you could legalize them like in ONE and it would probably be fine but it looks really brutal and would turn some people off.

Another thing to consider is whether you really want amateurs and low-level promotions to allow grounded knees. Should people who aren't getting paid much if anything with almost nobody watching them take that kind of punishment?

I think it's one of those things where people talk about them looking dangerous but don't have any evidence to back it up. They're a powerful strike yeah... but if they were as dangerous as people say the MVP - cyborg knee result would be fairly common with standing knees and flying knee strikes. It's like the teep kick to the knee, everyone screams they should be banned that they're career enders but I haven't seen anyone produce proof they even end fights, the one for that everyone pointed to was miguel torres getting dropped in kickboxing by one, and then glossing over the fact that he got up to finish the fight.

Swords, machetes and knives should also be legal.

Use your brain analyze how dangerous a knee to the top of the head of a fighter sprawled/on their knees. It would be a matter of time someone breaks another fighters neck.

TJ Dillashaw retired an MMA fighter with a knee on top of the head in sparring. Now stfu and do some physical activities

All knees- footstomps and calf kicks should be illegal. Maybe let the women knee each other in the face.

They are more for when a fighter's head is on the mat and there is no room for the head to travel away from the impact. At least that was the original intent.
Is the fear a skull fracture? Because that wouldn't increase the concussion.

You can tell who the soft nerds who haven't had to fight anyone or work for shit a day in their lives are up here littereally the same type of punk to cry online about how macho they are and hold fighters to standards you'd never hold yourself to, litterally the type of edgy punk that pretends to be a social path because you think it makes you cool or special lol

Allowing them would make the sport more entertaining. Let's start a petition.

People don't realize the power they have.

10-minute first rounds solve most of the judging problems. More finishes = less decision robberies.
Soccer kicks, knees to grounded opponents, and 12-to-6 elbows sound pretty good, too.

headbutts should be legal too

So that we can bitch about wrestlers being boring even though we took away their weapons to even the playing field. Coleman with Headbutts, grounded knees, and 12-6 elbows is frightening.
