Fitch was universally loved after the GSP fight, people calling him a warrior and all that, a year later he became one of the most disliked
The commentary was jizzing all over themselves that Penn was getting him down.
All I could think is wtf plan is this. You're not going to sub Fitch and you're just going to gas out. This fights a good example for Penn fans that say ,"but why didn't he go for the takedown"
Because his cardio sucks and he automatically loses if he can't secure a sub immediately.
That's 1 strike every 2 seconds. Should have been a 10-7 round with those stats.149 stikes landed by Fitch, 26 significant. 3/3 Takedowns.
10-7 in 2011?That's 1 strike every 2 seconds. Should have been a 10-7 round with those stats.
To this day it still annoys the fuck out of me, but does anyone remember when Fitch stole a W from BJ Penn?
Fitch tends to be a guy that we as fans kind of sniffle at, due to factors like his wrestling-centric style and the impression that he is "boring". Jon Fitch was a top 5 or 6 Welterweight for almost 10 years, people forget this.
Penn was a victim of his own bravery throughout his career, taking on all comers and taking L’s to ridiculously large opponents like Machida and even at 170, guys like MacDonald and St. Pierre. People forget how many considerably larger fighters Penn competed against and also how much success he had.
I remember Fitch pretty much laying on Penn for 4 minutes+ with the odd elbow thrown in, and the judges gifted him a 10-8 and subsequently - a draw.
I remember looking at the match-up and just being upset, felt similar to Henderson vs Thatch - where you just look at the size difference and you just cannot see him overcoming it.
Penn (in my opinion) technically embarrassed Jon Fitch for the first 10 minutes, and it pisses me off that fights like his now add to the blemishes on an "odd" record of a legend like BJ Penn.
It's more than just W's and L's on a record... Never forget The Prodigy - BJ PENN.

I feel like it was a draw honestly
It actually should have been a 10-7 round according to the criteria. Fitch would have won with the rule changes no doubt.

The fight was actually scored correctly for once (well, the final result was correct, anyway). Round 3 was a 10-8 for Fitch and the first two were clear 10-9s for Penn.

Jon Jones won a round 12-6 against Matt Hamill in 2009. Is normal.10-7 in 2011?

10-8...^This. This thread is one of the worst shit posts that I've seen here.
Fitch beat the living shit out Penn from top position in the third round.

Fitch beat the shit out of Penn from top position in the third, and Penn mounted zero offense. Clear 10-8 round.
