Remember when Fitch stole a win from BJ Penn!?

It's too damned bad BJ didn't grow to be just a little bit bigger. Not just burritoweight but a bigger build entirely.

He'd have had an epic run at WW when he was young. And wouldn't have faded so hard against bigger guys in the late rounds. Like he did with Fitch. Total bullshit. No disrespect to Fitch, who doesn't deserve the bad rap IMO. In a division that celebrated the reign of a human blanket it's kinda ridiculous to hate Fitch for the same, lol.

War BJ, man. Mad respect.

"He may not have won the fight, but Jon Fitch's performance in the third round of his match against BJ Penn was still historic. Fitch attempted 181 total strikes, which ties the all-time record for most thrown in a five-minute round in UFC history. Fitch is now tied with Matt Riddle, who achieved the same distinction in the third round of his match against Steve Bruno at Fight Night 17.

Of those 181 total strikes, Fitch landed 149 of them. That is good for second place behind Riddle, who landed 168 of his total strikes against Bruno."

pretty sure BJ admitted himself in the post fight interview he got a gifted draw from the judges
he thought he lost

Please, fitch destroyed him in that third round and deserved a 10-8 if any round ever did

"Penn was a victim of his own bravery throughout his career"

This is kind of true, but lets be honest, mofucka DID NOT like dieting lol.

I think he competed at higher weight classes due to lack of discipline, and laziness.

Tie was justified. Could have even been a loss as he got massacred in that final round that could have been 10-7 if judges weren't so conservative. He literally out landed(volume and percentage wise), s scored more takedowns, and had the fight close to finished all in just the final round compared to BJ's fight long totals. The only thing that gave BJ even a draw is a unified rules 10 point must rd. In pride or even a 1 on 1 street fight BJ would have been seen as the loser. and had their been a 4th rd BJ would have been stopped as he was never a guy to find a second wind once he's been sapped like that. Be happy he salvaged a draw out of it if you take solace in such things as you seem like a nuthugger.

It wasn’t a gift. Fitch whooped his ass in that round. Say it wasn’t damaging all you want, but Penns face was all red and shit. watching as a fan, I was dreadfully awaiting the ref to step in .

I fucking loved it when Demian Maia ''Jon Fitched" Fitch, and Fitch was getting frustrated, looking at the ref to try and stand them up and stuff. Fuck outta here.

It was a classic bj fight.

Bj came out in rd1 and showed everyone that yup, this guy really is the prodigy. He looked so good.

Then by rd3 we all knew burritos and no training bj would kick in and he got mauled for a 10-8 round.

Weeeellllll, in the post-fight interview Rogan asked him if he thought he did enough in the first two rounds to earn the draw and BJ responded, "No." He absolutely believed he lost this fight and said as much in the interview. He was the first guy I can ever recall saying something like that after the fight. I think BJ was just being hard on himself after a shitty end to the fight cuz he did excellent in the first and second rounds, even if they did both end with Fitch on top of him. His take downs and offensive wrestling were really on display in this one and threw Fitch for a loop (he was expecting a standard counter-boxing, counter-wrestling BJ). And his ability to take the back has always been remarkable.

Anyways, the judges got it right in this one; BJ won the first two rounds (the second one was closer than the first but still BJ's) and Fitch won the third 10-8. I find this one doesn't get enough attention considering just how entertaining it was. Yeah wise guys, Fitch did have some entertaining fights!

Even BJ thought he lost. He couldn't get the job done early and his cardio wasn't there. I love BJ but he's to blame for every match he "didn't win"

Nate currently holds the record with 238. Valentina could've broke that record if she didn't go for the sub.

Didn't read but i remember BJ getting his ass beat in the third round.
He absolutely did. I don't get why people complain when they don't understand the scoring ceiteria.

You cannot lay in guard for an entire round eating gnp and get nine points for the round.

You guys got serious rose colored glasses. I was rooting for Penn and I was pissed he spent like four minutes of a five minute round just eating gnp. Gave that fight away with bad cardio yet again.

Fitch has no power but he spent four straight minutes smashing his face and bj was beat up looking and seemed defeated while they read the cards. I was shocked he managed a draw. He should have lost that fight tbh.

I enjoyed that fight in all fairness

Fitch was always such an anti hero for me, loved watching him crush fan boy favourites

And make terrible game plans to do it.

BJ implemented a grappling game plan against Fitch, WTF stupid idea.
When it became clear he wasn't going to easily out grapple fitch he decided to make it a battle of attrition and fight it out on the cage. WTF stupid idea.

3rd round was the logical result from a terrible game plan.

The commentary was jizzing all over themselves that Penn was getting him down.

All I could think is wtf plan is this. You're not going to sub Fitch and you're just going to gas out. This fights a good example for Penn fans that say ,"but why didn't he go for the takedown"

Because his cardio sucks and he automatically loses if he can't secure a sub immediately.

Fitch was universally loved after the GSP fight, people calling him a warrior and all that, a year later he became one of the most disliked
