Ehm, how do you know that? Seems a bit of a stretch.Cut the nonsense. When someone says "not bad for a job that doesn't require an education", they mean that their pay is not bad considering the fact that they didn't have to take out upwards of 100k in loans to land their respective positions (law students - on average - take out around that much in loans, alone).
You mean to change the financial structure of the sport to funnel even more money to Zuffa execs while fighters make less. Its no less random for fighters who still get paid per fight, its just less random for Zuffa execs who will get a stream of money for x number of years for the length of the Reebok contract.
For the champion? It's pretty mediocre to bad considering what fighters used to be able to make from sponsors. Most fighters don't even get 30k look at the numbers. You got top 5 guys getting 5k or less. Pathetic.

And I'm sorry, I forgot how messed up the US educational system is :/
I know that, I meant how do you know the guy I was quoting was referring to the insane costs of studying instead of just being a prick. It is a well documented figure from reliable sources (I was being conservative).
"After tallying up all of these other costs, it is not uncommon for law school graduates to carry a debt burden of between $150,000 and $200,000, and many carry much more."

Not bad for the sponsorship unto itself. Do you have the pre-Reebok numbers, by chance?
RE to first post time you quoted me: His point was that they are not doing bad for not having to take out the debt associated with formal education. His/her point was as solid as it gets and not a single person in here has tried to take it on (and they won't).
Not bad for a job that requires no education.

I'm sure I can find a lot of quotes if you want me to. Brendan Schaub made over 100k in sponsors alone. That says something right there. There is no way that 10k or under is nearly as good as what the majority of those guys were getting from sponsors.
I saw at least one guy ho is a pro fighter say that point was not valid. Pro fighters work just as hard and sacrifice just as much for their education. They have to continue paying for it by giving their trainers/managers money from their winnings. That's a big cost that doesn't go away.
"Son become an MMA champion you'll make 40k a fight in sponsorship once you're champion; after taxes; that leaves you set for the year"
You people are disturbing. You enjoy watching these men and women put their brains on the line every week while they're grossly underpaid for it. Give me a break.
Not bad for a job that requires no education.
You cannot use one instance to demonstrate a trend. That is called an anecdote. You don't really think 100k+ in sponsors was the norm, do you?
The cost in no way, shape, or form mirrors the mandated debt associated with modern education. The point is incredibly valid and will remain so until someone tries to tackle it (once again, no one will).
But obviously most could do better from their neighbourhood sponsors than the 2.5k Rebook paid them...
Their education is their training. All crafts require an education.
