ONE Recent fights/results/news from ONE Championship

Maemmot looked good against Rittidet, although I've always thought Rittidet doesn't hold the best shot, he tends to unravel pretty badly once he's been buzzed but what was impressive about Maemott was he dominated the whole fight tactically. Not sure if Rittidet got his tactics right he seemed to want to see if he could play the puncher, which he isn't.

Klopp - Nakano was really enjoyable and a good example of the KB tempo at its best

Uzair looks like another *Russian Puncher* to add to the roster, not sure if that was his normal game in such a brief fight but definitely looks explosive

Personally I thought he lost that fight. Malatesta did a great job second round, drawing Yod's lead right hand and outside slipping>>countering with the left cross several times (although i did wonder if Yod's desire to show more variety and be more 'exciting' made him fight outside his normal gameplan a bit, those lead right hands were tactically stupid as he was never landing them) and turning the right hook counter over Yod's left a few times too. Pressuring with the feet and mostly negating the kicking game, driving the straight left hand into the body every opportunity, loosing off combinations when he had Yod on the ropes. in a boxing-only fight he'd massacre Yod IMO. He also used the same tactic that Musaev had success with against Yod, countering Yod's attacks with low kicks frequently

I thought Malatesta fought his absolute best fight in rds 2&3, he fought slightly above my expectations. I'd have to rewatch rd3 but my impression was he had the better of it. Its good to have another good fighter in the mix at bantamweight anyway, I don't think he's good enough for a contract but he is a good matchup and always a good watch.

I have watched Malatesta fight quite a few times outside of One aswell. He is a good fighter but often fights very conservatively. So he doesn't make mistakes but doesn't take any chances too. He will never lose by much but if he don't get a ko he will never win by much either.

I thought he pushed the pace pretty hard last night to be fair, certainly in One he has gone for it pretty hard with the hands and his finishing flurries have been pretty spectacular, the small gloves does incentivise fighters to do that. The comms team called him a big puncher but I wouldn't say that, his hands are fast and accurate but not heavy IMO, he wouldn't look a puncher in big gloves I don't think but the small gloves really emphasize his speed and accuracy, he's got what I'd call crisp hands. I think there are many fighters who are short of Yod-IQ's level he would have beaten and maybe overwhelmed on last night's form.

actually thinking about it he went at Dayakayev like a man possessed and actively looked to throw hands with him early, and was pretty competitive, I think he got tagged and took a step back and Dayakayev started walking him down after that IIRC. seems he has changed his style quite a lot for the small gloves.

There are plenty of half-decent fighters kicking around One at or around bantam he'd have good matches with, Khomutov, Cicek, Soner Sen would all be very good matches and firefights with the hands

Kind of insane they aren’t doing Haggerty v Yoza in Japan but this is still a cool matchup.

I think they wasted a great opportunity here, Yoza vs Haggerty for the title could have been a great potential co main event. Superlek vs Yoza 3 round is still a great matchup but I don’t like the idea of Superlek continuing in the bantamweight division. Also Nabil vs Haggerty is a terrible match for the general.
 
I find Yoza vs Superlek to be a much more interesting matchup than Yoza vs Haggerty. Superlek and Yoza are both high level kickers representing their respective martial arts, contrasting styles (pressure fighter vs counter fighter), the age old Thai-Japanese rivalry, etc etc. I've never found Haggerty super compelling either, high level guy who seems to rely on his athleticism to make his style work, but not as much technical nuance as his Thai or Japanese counterparts. Regardless, Yoza has only had two fights in the promotion, which seems kinda fast to get a title fight imo.
 
Haggerty hasnt earned a MT title fight and doesnt have the style to challenge Nabil anyways. Which means either they make that fight, sabotaging any hype for his next KB title defense, or they have Haggerty sit on the shelf for months.
 
I think we'll see a tactical adjustment from Sen for the 3rd go-around. 1st fight, he was very high-volume early, quite a lot of in&out movement, using his fast hands and reach and movement to get the first strike off and throw combinations off it, buzz Worapon up and get the knockdown. BUT it clearly depleted his gas tank a bit, and once Worapon got that gorilla grip on him about midway through rd2, it was a one-way ticket to Clinchfuckville for the rest of the fight and his gas tank (and his morale) were like visibly depleting by the second like in a computer game.

In the second fight he was far more passive early, seemingly wary of draining his tank, which gave Worapon total tactical initiative to push him back with the feet, attack the legs and dominate the first round as a prelude to the rd2&3 ragdollery from the clinch. I did notice that Sen did a slightly better job of defending against the elbows in the clinch 2nd time round even though he still got bodied it wasn't quite as violent. Even imagining he's still been working on that aspect he clearly won't win the fight from there.

I definitely think he will try and impose himself more this time around rather than letting Worapon have the initiative early, I'm guessing trying to pick hard hurtful shots in 1s and 2s. If he can stay out of the clinch for the first 2 rounds he can win the fight, so the key factor for him is literally just that. Whatever happens in rd 1 and 2, in rd3 once his movement and output drop, he is getting mauled in the clinch, so he has to get those rounds in the bank. To win the rounds he has to be on the front foot so its all about how long he can maintain that pace.

After fighting (and to an extent being allowed to fight) a near-perfect tactical fight last time I have to imagine things will be a bit more difficult for Worapon this time round and there is the ever-present threat that Sen's hands are a knockdown/knockout threat whenever he is allowed to let them go off the front foot. I'm guessing the first round could be a bit of a war as Sen strives to stop Worapon pushing him back and Worapon looks to reciprocate knowing every shot Sen throws drains his tank that little bit and makes a rd2/3 clinchfuck session more likely.

Chama took a dive. Even after the 'ko' you could see Superbon looking at him inquisitively.
Maybe he was annoyed at fighting someone above his weight class but probably gambling related.
Some fights in One remind me of the phuket/bangla fight scene.
A lot of weight disparities. They do it in Phuket to keep the foreigners paying big fees to train. Set them up with very winnable fights.
Think its 'marketing' reasons in One.
I am starting to miss more and more the proper weight and ranking system they had in the stadiums.

Of course it's not the pace and crazyness of the OFF since it's boxing gloves and more traditional style MT but still fun.

Yeah I watch RWS its pretty good. Ive went to it live aswell a few years ago. There was a dive in the show I went to aswell. A welsh guy was fighting a thai. Could see that the thai guy was levels above he then took an obvious dive in the second. The dive was one thing but what annoyed me was nobody gave a shit because there was no gamblers there.
Still watch rws though they have some good matchups.
What I miss are shows like onesongchai shows in raja from a few years ago. Traditional muay thai but with a good atmosphere and buzz in the stadiums.
I went to a few of shows around 2016 etc and the atmosphere was way better than current RWS shows.

well over 3 fights Sen has improved greatly in defending elbows from the clinch but thats about all he showed last night. some powderpuff strikes in the first half of the first round, the clinching started about halfway through the first round and by a minute into the 2nd round he was looking out of the ring at the clock already. I don't think he believed he could win that fight, which may be the first fight in MT history where the major damage in the fight was done via knees to the thigh from the clinch? probably the most boring OFF headliner ever.

and Khunsuek vs Hassan Vahdanirad who is the random Iranian who did decent vs Shadow but got stopped in OFF100

and I knew wins over 2 random arabs, a bum-swinging clueless Argentinian and undersized Rungrawee wouldn't mean Jarvis was prepared for someone like Eersel. albeit I'm not sure who the hell else One have at the weight, they may need to invest in some Russian punchers to find any more decent fights for Eersel

there was some footage on one of the One-linked IG accounts that showed Sen was feeling ill at the weigh-in and he struggled to make the weight and hydration limit, which would explain a lot in terms of his lack of output, the lack of power he put into his strikes, the usual poor gas tank, etc ....

apparently Walid Sakhraji is 'already-contracted' even though this is his debut. Its happened a couple of times when they have announced a contracted fighter who didn't have to fight their way through the OFF sharkpit. Khunponnoi is a nice test for anyone so we'll see Walid's level at least

Samingdam - Sonrak is a nice match with two stalwarts although 140lbs seems quite high for both of them, Samingdam has always looked stocky but he's gradually looked more and more like he's on a high-vitamin diet so maybe that's it.

Pataknin - Petlampun is nice
