MT/KB Japan Recent fights/results/news from Japan II

Some would say matching a Japanese 18 year old only 2 years into his pro career and with no pro experience in an elbow/full clinch ruleset vs. Wanchalong is premature.
But KNOCKOUT gotta beat K-1 somehow and they decided to super accelerate the hypetrain. Somehow, I think they're gonna drive it into a wall.

Crazy matchmaking.....They are pretty much throwing him to the wolves. Is there a huge upside to him winning? In terms of popularity in japan.

Very hard to say.
On one hand, for all the esteem behind MT, its virtually unknown in the mainstream. Genji and T-98 have gotten no real commercial boost from winning stadium straps. On the other hand, if you except Takeru, Tenshin is the most prolific fighter in Japan at the moment and represents KNOCK OUT's best chance at developing a star. It seems he's on every third fight magazine cover these days. With 55kgs being the weaker division that it is, he's already blown out every conceivable non-K-1/Krush opposition in Japan by KOing the RISE, REBELS and SB champions. Perhaps they think that this is the one win that he needs to really break through.

Storywise, the match makes sense since they've been trying to promote Tenshin as the real deal as opposed to Takeru (who they accuse of ducking Tenshin).

Its a crazy haymaker bet on KNOCK OUT's part. If Tenshin gets blown out, they might as well fold shop immediately.

AbemaTV is up to 2M active users and 10M downloads. I bet 70% of that is anime. I think UFC 200 was on free broadcast and only got 200K viewers or something. Japanese priorities.

Card for KNOCK OUT has been finalized. The Tenshin hypetrain is gonna be put to the test.

Co-Main: Nasukawa Tenshin (BLADE Tournament champion, RISE BW champion, ISKA BW champion) vs. Wanchalong P.K.SaenchaiGym (Reigning Lumpinee Super FLW Champion)
Main: Umeno Genji vs Sirimongkol P.K.SaenchaiGym

In an ideal world, Nasukawa will win this one and call out Takeru in RIZIN NYE.

In full Thai rule??? if Tenshin wins this, his hype train will surpass Dekker's victory over Nampon and Cherry or Satoshi Kobayashi's KO over Thepparit.

He has a good chance to do it too. Tenshin has experience in full Thai rule, and this would be
Wanchalong' first fight abroad. His fight habit to start very late to please gamblers could bite him back really hard.

"KNOCK OUT" Rules, seems to be mostly old school Japanese KB.
Elbows and unlimited clinch. Scoring skewed towards punches. 5 Rounds.

To commemorate Takeru's victory, K-1 Japan sold 100 Takeru-design gloves that he would personally sign if you bring it to a fan event. Despite being priced at the ludicrous amount of $~150 a pair, they apparently sold out in 10 minutes. He's signing a new batch of 100 gloves so if any of y'all are fangirls, I would jump on it quick lol

Japanese teenager fights Wanchalong and it's a testament to his bravery and an overall amazing feat.

Thai teenager fights Wanchalong and nobody gives a fuck.

Am I wrong?

You people get far more enthusiastic when a Thai fights someone who isn't Thai. This is fact.

He's Japanese, he's different! ZOMG

Petpanomrung fighting in Glory was made a bigger deal on here than any of his fights in Thailand. You guys are weak.

That's how it works around here. When I point out an inconsistency or fact, it's just me being a salty hipster. An easy and convenient way to dodge the crushing you would get in a discussion. People block me on Twitter for the same thing.

Who said anyone about testament to bravery or amazing feats?

Can't you just smugly enjoy that a thai is getting an opportunity to earn fame by crushing competition on a bigger stage?

The situations aren't even compareable. People are intrigued by the story line more than anything. We have a Japanese kickboxing prospect, who's trying to get a fight with Takeru for quite some time, challenging a current Lumpinee Champ out of nowhere for his muay thai debut fight.

I'd say that's pretty exciting.

And yes, Panpayak (?) vs. Wanchalong was a higher profile fight. Nobodys denying that.

With stadium fights people get desensitized to the awesomeness. If McGregor fought every other weekend nobody would go crazy about his fights either. Variety is the spice of life as they say.

I can see through this bullshit easily.

Takeru fights a can, or K-1 puts on a show with random bums, and you guys get way more into it than the biggest Muay Thai fights. This thread is proof.

You guys just hang at the surface level of Muay Thai but have never peeled back a few layers. There are no crossover MMA people interested in Muay Thai, so neither are you. That's how this works.

K-1 does a better job of putting on a flowing event rather than just fights. It's guaranteed entertainment, and they build narratives for the fights. Also three fight tournaments help to make the overall experience compelling. Regardless, this is the Japan thread. What do you expect?

When there are mega cards in the stadiums people on here get excited. It's the whole event experience that draws attention. Nobody is getting pumped from a one off Takeru fight.

I've watched like 2 Takeru fights but when Takeru fought Taiga in the tournament final he tried to get the KO in the 3rd round even if he was way ahead on the scorecards, and many of the other fights were non stop action . Not exactly the same kind of action in your typical Petpanomrung vs Phetmorakot fight.

Im sure everybody here loves it when Sangmanee, Saeksan, Thanonchai etc fight

But there arent even stadium fights going on right now since the king passed away so what discussion do you expect in the thailand thread...

No but i'm talking from a general audience perspective.

But yeah if i'm watching a fight with fighters i'm not very familiar with i like to see action. If i'm a fan of the fighter then i don't care. I just wanna see him fight.
@Snubnoze707 You need stories and tournaments to be interested?
@Kanka You need KO's to be interested?

Artifice and hype. You guys are fish.

That's because Takeru fights are more entertaining than 95% of stadium fights. What's with you coming into this thread and trying to tell people what they find entertaining?

I rarely post in the Thailand thread anymore, because the community and the discussion in this thread are actually good without your whole bullshit.
