Really unexpectedly good WW2 film

i just saw one of the best ww2 film s in my life and it was totally unexpected.


it stars tom hanks and is called greyhound (i think it was released a couple years ago but never got any momentum but its become a cult classic).


no its not about a busdriver saving a busline..


its actually a really really good film about northern atlantic ocean warfare between US ships transporting soldiers/equipment to UK and the german submarines that are stocking them within 'The Black Pit' - (the 300-to-800-mile stretch where ships couldnt have air support.

really worth a watch if you like war movies.

There's another unknown WW2 movie that is seriously underrated called "Saving Private Ryan." Ironically, it also stars Tom Hanks.

It was good for sure. I watched it, and it seemed pretty realistic with how things would go. I liked the ending when he was relieved of the escort role to get his ship fixed, and the commander was shocked to learn it was his first crossing with all that success.

My Grand Dad could not get into the Army or Navy due to severe color blindness. So he joined the Merchant Marines and ended up on a Liberty Ship going back and forth from the US East Coast to Europe. I thought he had it easy, only to learn it was one of the top three most deadly roles in WWII, right behind being a 1st Sergeant in the Infantry, and a Ball Turret Gunner on a bomber. It was hard to get stories out of him, but I called him when I learned, and he laughed. "Yeah... we always wore life jackets, unless we were transporting munitions, then it just didn't matter, and you didn't wear one." RIP Grand Dad!

Its a really great movie that was scheduled for a big Summer blockbuster release in the Summer of 2020 but then it got dumped to streaming because of the scamdemic, which is a shame cause it definitely woulda been a big hit, it is frickin' awesome!

You know from the start it was his first crossing. It's not a spoiler.

My grandfather lived it... and people likely don't know how deadly that crossing was.

When you take your butt hurt from the War Room and bring it here... you're a weak bitch.

Only one of the four warships in the film is US American, and in 1942, the year in which the film is set, only about a third of the merchant vessels participating in the Battle of the Atlantic were US American.
