I gave it a 10 but I'd prolly change it to a 9.5 if I could. It's Arnold's best performance IMO (possibly his most underrated performance at that) and it's a top tier movie with only a few minor flaws. The headlights switching from on to off at the police station and the Terminator and Reese not already have rounds chambered in the club (which I was reminded of watching the clips posted in this thread). I get why that is, they like having the visual and noise of chambering a round onscreen but it's wildly unrealistic. Probably a few minor little things like that in a movie that's otherwise an absolute masterpiece.

1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 all involve a bad Terminator being sent from the future and a protector being sent from the future.

4 is nothing to write home about and the new ideas for the plot weren't particularly good, but it deviated from that which seems pretty revolutionary given that they went and made two more "good and bad guy sent back from the future" movies afterward...and those both sucked donkey dick.

It's kind of a shame that Salvation's new ideas weren't that great and that the movie wasn't that well received, because the suits and paper pushers then damned the series to worse and worse attempts to recycle the plot of T1.
I like your ideas from another thread about a Terminator movie set in the future. I also liked the show's idea that there was an AI that disagreed with Skynet. Much better than recycling the plot from T1 over and over.

A true 10/10 film, and there is nothing else to add.

On a side note I wonder what an “oh shit!!!” moment it was when you found out Arnold was the good guy while watching the second one in theaters since spoilers couldn’t really run as rampant as they do now.

I would say the Alien movies were all more honest attempts to expand the lore than Terminator 3, 5 and 6. Each of those is just a crappy remake of T1 with most of the intended appeal or draw being whatever gimmick is new for the bad terminator. T3 ohhh it's a woman with an endoskeleton, T5 ohhh it's John Connor, T6 ohhh it can split in two. I guess I am saying that the people making the Terminator movies don't even think they have to expand the lore for its audience, they think that pooping on the camera lens will do as long as the bad Terminator has a new feature of some kind. T7 it can split into THREE terminators.

As you know, T5 and T6 both undo the existing lore to shoehorn a reason for their existence into the story. At best they are lore replacement, certainly not an expansion.

Very well said.

I thought Prometheus and Resurrection had some cool ideas. It’s just that the execution was uneven and there were many lapses in credibility and logic as the narrative progressed from point A to point B.

At the very least, Fass’ performance as David and Walter in AR is probably more interesting than any given element of Genesys or Dark Fate.

Terminator- they can’t help but go back to the sending a machine back to kill/protect the savior trope and they can’t help going back to Arnold. I get it. Arnold is great. He’s iconic. But the fact is that Terminator without Cameron at the helm is not going to be better than mediocre whether they get Arnold, Linda, Furlong, Robert Patrick, Bobby Budnick from Salute Your Shorts or whoever else.

You still don't get it, do you? He'll find her. That's what he does. That's all he does! You can't stop him! He'll wade through you, reach down her throat, and pull her fucking heart out! Let...go of me!!

Yeah the Terminator movie series after part 2 is really a tragedy of what we didn't get to see and instead what people who didn't care about the franchise in the first place tried to package up and sell the audience for easy money. Over and over and over again...

Tim Miller in the promotional tour for Dark Fate was laughing about how his movie means that Kyle Reese never even existed. These people were just in the wrong headspace from day one. The same for the writers and director of T3...even writing and filming the Chief Master Sgt. William Candy scene means you are incredibly off base, even if you manage to just barely have the good sense to not include that in the final cut.

A perfect ten. Terminator and T2, along with Alien and Aliens managed to make a 10/10 sci fi/horror film followed by a 10/10 sci fi action film.

Yeah I wish James Cameron had been consulted for Highlander 2, Stakeout 2, Major League 2, The Fly 2, etc.

The king of the first sequel.

The first one was the best.
The sequels and reboots were nothing but cash grabs.
They all had the same plot.

Terminator Salvation was the only exception of having a unique plot compared to the rest of the films.
Nah, Terminator 2 was awesome as well. Mind blowing special effects at the time. After that they got standard.

I would say the effects in all of Terminator 3 through 6 were generally good. It was the plots and characters that were garbage.

Certainly no movie after the second one revolutionized effects in the industry, no doubt about that, but I would have been more than happy to watch a movie with a good story and characters that didn't require all that much in the way of special effects in the first place.

Terminator 3 is the only one where I would say the effects were outright bad at times, but that was mostly because the effect / shot was a bad idea in the first place. e.g. Arnold popping his head back on after it got kicked off. As I said above, only writers / directors in the completely wrong headspace come up with goofy shit like that in the movie right after T2.
