The Illusionist (2006)

I enjoyed this movie me up until the end.

They framed the crown prince for murder, and that is supposed to be the big reveal? The Chief Inspector should have been outraged. Yeah, the prince was a dick, but WTF?

7/10 - "B-"

Police Story 2013 with Jackie Chan and I think the Chinese actress from Pacific Rim Uprising or whatever it was called.

I liked other Jackie Chan movies, but this one's story seemed shitty and hard to believe.

Dolemite is my name: 9/10 from me, I legitimately laughed my ass off watching this movie.

The Lighthouse - 5/10.

I'm all for having to think and ponder a movie but this was a huge letdown. Expecting some Lovecraftian WTF Horror but it was just mostly WTF. Best parts of the movie were the two characters getting drunk.

bunch of crybabies in the official thread didn’t like my opinion but yeah, i saw joker with a couple buddies the other night. was hoping for an all time classic. a taxi driver-esque anti-hero revenge flick. that’s all i’d heard going in. i give it a 2 or 3 out of 10. here’s why.

what joker is is a bizarre, unlikeable, pointless story of a man who’s closer to bad boy bubby than travis bickle. if it was intended to be a black comedy & parody of movies like taxi driver, joker would be my film of the year... but it’s not. joaquin’s overacting is genuinely unbearable on the surface level.

about 20 minutes in, when i realized this was going to be the train wreck that it is, i started to pretend i was watching a comedy, and it was frankly hilarious. there were also two intentionally comedic scenes that i noticed but both were thrown in haphazardly after relatively intense scenes of cold blooded murder. there was no comedic relief effect. just random comedy.

i have a severely mentally ill sister and this movie really does nothing to showcase anything positive about people with a mental illness. this movie basically portrays a man with crippling PTSD or severe autism as nothing but a ticking time bomb with absolutely nothing positive to offer the world and tries to convince you he’s the protagonist.

arthur fleck is an awful piece of shit and so is everyone else around him except maybe sophie, the girl he stalks around the city after literally meeting her once. the movie then tries to make you believe she doesn’t care about all that because he tells her a stupid joke in his doorway. now they’re boyfriend and girlfriend!... until 45 minutes later when he breaks into her apartment, she begs him to leave, and you find out their relationship was all in his head! makes sense. there’s a million different plot points that don’t make any sense but i’ll settle for this one.

shitty writing, comical overacting from joaquin, boring characters. the movie is not good. like i said, 3/10.

Just scoped the thread....lol people certainly are butt hurt. Don’t agree with a 3/10 but I’m not far off either, I gave joker a 5/10, and I’m being generous.

I'm not disagreeing or arguing with you but...

I think so much was made of this movie being the new Taxi Driver etc, that a lot of people forgot it is still the origin story of the Joker set in a fictitious world of exaggerated filth & hatred that is Gotham City.

That really can't be ignored in this movie but I think a hell of a lot of people have, but really it is deep rooted in a world that is not real & completely buried in comic book lore.

The guy's on the cusp of becoming the greatest comic book villain of all time, he's no Travis Bickle

He's this crazy dude who's about to fight a guy dressed as a bat

maybe i’m being a bit unfair with the rating. a 4/10 seems fine too. like i said, if you pretend it’s a parody, the movie is a 10/10.

you could be right, and i do love the joker. it just seems like a ridiculous origin story that doesn’t match the previous iterations of the character to me.

it's certainly the first time his origin story has been looked at in this much depth outside the comic books

I liked your opinions on it though, it would be a fucking boring world if we all liked the same shit

lmao i’m glad you at least enjoyed my take. i will say it’s very hard to believe joaquin’s arthur fleck as an origin story. i just cant believe a human that dysfunctional ever became any iteration of the joker. i always assumed the joker was a very brilliant, capable villain. joaquin’s joker comes across as mentally disabled.

I like to think of it as one of the old 'What If' comic books, just a strange alternate version of a story/character we already know

So this could be 'What If The Joker Was A Certified Loon That Got Sectioned At A Young Age & Never Actually Became The Joker'!

Joker 10/10 Legit awesome.

Zombieland 2 7/10. Fun with some smart humour but nothing extra special.

ZOMBIELAND 2

The only thing notable is they brought the main players back. I am not sure why the first one is as popular as it is, which I don't mean as an insult, because the sequel is more of the same but somehow doesn't have the same magic.

EL CAMINO

I did the right thing for myself and waited until my expectations were rock bottom; ended up enjoying this even though it's for the same reason I DIDN'T enjoy ZOMBIELAND 2. EL CAMINO utterly creates no new story in the BREAKING BAD world. It fills in some blanks we didn't even care were missing. As a result it's a pleasant foray back with some familiar characters who obviously are much older than they used to be. It's the cameos you expect, and literally nothing else. Pinkman's Greatest Hits, of a kind.

I will agree to disagree, but I totally see why some don’t dig it. I thought he gave an amaIng performance, my issue was a big one though. SPOILER ALERT

Being around mentally ill, especially off their meds.....if this guy is as fucked up as they make him out to be....how could he become anything more than a murderer. He goes on to become a master villain crime boss....I can’t see this lowly fuck up becoming that.

When the trumpets fade from 1998

If youve seen one world war 2 movie youve seen them all. If youve played your ww2 games you know exactly whats going to happen to the men you are watching. I liked the beginning and the end though
6/10

that’s exactly how i feel too. the guy is a bumbling idiot with no skills of any kind. and i guess once he shoots a guy he develops all the skills to become a criminal mastermind.
