They Cloned Tyrone--Sci Fi Comedy Mystery starring Jamie Foxx, John Boyega, Teyona Parris, and Keifer Sutherland. I had so much fun watching this because the dialogue is fucking hysterical. John Boyega did fine, but I am not sure why he is a star. Jamie Foxx on the other hand stole the show. You have to listen closely because it's the back round under his breath stuff that kills. Some twists, and truly funny scenes putting the hood under a microscope....literally. 7/10

Inside (2023)

I enjoyed it. It's kind of like Cast away in a luxury apartment. Sounds dumb but it makes more sense if you watch it.

It is basically just Dafoe trying to survive with limited water and food while trying to get out of said apartment.

I can see how this film might be slow or stagnate for some people but I thought it did enough to keep things interesting as it went on.

Goes on maybe 15 minutes too long. The elements of interpretation or vagueness in it can also come off as an excuse for not knowing which direction to go, or at least felt like the writer couldnt decide exactly how to wrap everything up.

Overall though I got into it. Not for everyone but a decent psychological thriller/survival type movie.

6.7/10 maybe.

The Crazies(2010)- A little let down by this one. Enjoyed the early scenes of townspeople becoming crazy and I thought that most of the focus was going to be the town descending into madness. But it pretty quickly became focused on the military quarantining the area, which was much less interesting to me. Overall well done enough to keep me watching but not one I'd rewatch anytime soon.
6/10

Talk to Me- This year has been pretty lukewarm for horror so was very excited going into this. And it exceeded my expectations. The most interesting/unique take on haunting/possession I've seen in a long time. And it manages to live up to its great initial concept and never really lost steam for me. Last third of the movie is probably its strongest part and the ending couldn't have been more perfect. Had some issues with certain characters that grew as the film went but in retrospect might actually add to the movie. Wouldn't say it lives up to the hype of "Scariest Movie Ever!", not that I really cared, still easily best horror movie of the year so far, maybe even better than anything last year too.
8.5/10
The original The Crazies sucked. I reviewed it earlier in this thread.

Forced Vengeance (1982)

A Vietnam War soldier, Chuck Norris, visits Hong Kong passing through in transit and returns there hired as a casino security guard. Norris goes ballistic after the deaths of his two friends; a casino director and assistant director. Now Norris fights the Hong Kong gangsters who are after him and his two female friends. It is an entertaining movie with lots of fight scenes, it also has its silly moments.

Had a super long day at work so went and watched The Meg 2 right after i clocked out. Not even sure how to rate it as its 100% aware of how dumb and over the top it can be.

Its 2 movies crammed together though, 1st half with all the exploring and underwater exo suit on foot scenes to the on land full on bonkers all hell breaks loose with B movie goodness 2nd half. It's for sure a so bad it's good movie for me, I know most will hate it but i caught it at the right time after a rough day.

Jason Statham stabs a shark with a helicopter blade in the air and we get the hero shot of him effortlessly holding it up, that's how over the top we are talking here

Meg 2 - The Trench

Jurassic World wannabe. Unmemorable characters. Terrible dialogue. Substitutes tension and suspense with silly monster action. Just like in the first Meg movie, Jason Statham is not suited to be in this type of movie because there's a an aura of invulnerability to the actor that he can't shake off which results in the viewers not buying the character is in any danger at all. I give the movie props though for its female eye candy cast.

Rating 5/10

Now See Them Run (or something like that) - 2 out of 10

Finished watching this and initial assessment of it sucking stands.

I'm pretty sure I saw Statham had a producer credit on this. There were definitely scenes where he would do something stupidly over the top or say a dumb line and almost wink at the camera.

I get having fun with a movie but even good actors like Clifton Curtis were there simply to spit out 1 liners, that's actually all his character was from what I remember. Spot on with the unmemorable characters, especially the bad guys.

Well done western. On a visual level the cinematography is fantastic and really brings the setting to life. Paired with a great score it sets a mood and tone early on.

Great cast and the performances are very good. The standout for me was Ray Winstone. I thought the most interesting performance or casting choice was Danny Huston. Not the type of role I'm used to seeing him in, but I thought he did a very good job.

It is a pretty simple but well done story and premise, with well done characters and a respectable amount of emotional core. Then the direction, performances and atmosphere elevate it and give it an added sort of touch and texture.

I did think the editing or something felt a bit off, especially toward the end. As if certain scenes were cut that might've helped the transitions between some moments.

Overall 7.5/10 very good.

I've always figured these pure evil guys were right in Danny Huston's wheelhouse. 30 Days of Night, Edge of Darkness etc.

Pretty good one two generation punch with John Huston that doesn't get recognized as much as Douglas / Sutherland etc.

Yeah he's always good in roles that require a certain type deviousness.

THOR: RAGNAROK

Hailed for years as one of the best MCU films, I finally got around to watching it. I was underwhelmed. Looked good, nice set designs, interesting score with the synthwave that I liked...but all in service of an empty spectacle. There could have been a good movie that all took place on the Jeff Goldblum planet with escaping from bondage and an uprising and an end to the gladiator games and escape. Or there could have been a good movie about the history between Odin and Cate Blanchett, how she obtains power upon her return and what happens when she does, and ultimately what has to happen to Asgaard.

Instead the movie has both of these storylines and neither one gets told properly. It just skips to a snapshot along the arc for each one again and again and skips the entire meat of both journeys. At the end...I didn't feel much of anything for either story. It skipped making two good movies in order to make a long music video with about a third of what each story needed to properly breathe.

6.2 / 10

Talk to Me (2023)

A semi-unique take on the trauma horror genre or "elevated" horror as they call it. Interesting back story on the directors...apparently they're famous youtubing brothers and this was there first directorial debut.

A girl still grieving and dealing with the suicide of her mother starts playing this game where with her HS friends in which they allow spiritual entities to inhabit their bodies for 90 seconds at a time by shaking hands with this hand-like object and asking it to "talk to them" and "letting them in." It's imperative that they don't let the entity stay longer than 90 seconds and that they close the portal by blowing out the candle and letting go of the hand-like object. Their reactions to interacting with these spirits are often recorded and uploaded onto social media as the rest of their friends think it's hilarious. It gives them a euphoric-like feeling after the fact that keeps drawing them back.

After one of the younger kids allows the entity to take over, things start going horribly wrong and the main character is left questioning and wondering if her mother really killed herself...

The movie was okay. It has a really high rotten tomatoes score, one of the reasons I was drawn to it. The movie is about an hour and half, so not too long. The ending leaves a lot to be interpreted. Not a cliffhanger, but it leaves the door open to possibly franchise this movie.

Some people will really love it and some will think it's meh...

6.5/7-10 for me. Not mind blowing like people made it out to be. Didn't leave me feeling the way I did when I first watched Hereditary.

So you liked it?

So you liked it?

Well...not really to be honest. It just mostly went by quickly enough and was put together in a mostly digestible way and looked and sounded good enough that I couldn't really drop it into the 5s. I think I gave Black Panther a 6.0 and I liked this a sliver more so...6.2.

I'd never watch this again but I just can't really think of enough reasons to sink it below a 6. Its marks are basically almost all for production value and not being incoherent.

I have black panther around a 7 maybe and Thor 3 around an 8.

I don't think your criticisms are unfair but personally I kinda like the wacky rushed aspect of it and the comedy.

Open Fire (1994)

Jeff Wincott is a former FBI agent who now works as a construction worker in Los Angeles. A group of mercenaries led by Patrick Kilpatrick and Michael Shaner have seized a chemical factory. By chance it is the same chemical factory Wincott's father works at. Wincott attempts to battle the group of mercs head on. As expected Wincott reverts back to his martial arts and weapons lineage.

It is a "B" grade movie passable on a rainy day.
