Rashad Evans said he gets over 235 pounds

The media were asking Dana about this in the most recent scrum and he acted like it was ridiculous that Rashad would want to fight at a Catch-weight and not for the belt. That makes me think Rashad wants to fight at catch weight and not for the belt.

Why not take the fight at Catchweight? If he wins then that sets up a rematch for the belt. If he loses then why bother making the cut.

Look at Rashad's legs - that's where most of his weight is at. It's why Bendo is talking about moving up to WW eventually - he carries so much weight in his legs.

I remember when people would see Cro-Cop weighing 230 and saying how easy he could make LHW, not realizing he'd have to cut a leg off to probably make it.

Crocop could have made 205 easily, the size of his legs has nothing to do with it. The only reason why he never dropped was personal pride.

Big deal. Anderson cuts from 250 lbs. just so he can fight little guys and duck teh LHW.

i bet anderson silva gets close to 230 pounds when hes not fighting.

I was a shredded 185 (6 foot 1) when I met him in like 07. When people see that picture, they say he dwarfs me :icon_neut

Rashad stated he gets over 235 pounds, with this in mind I rather Rashad Evans not have a fight with Anderson Silva in his first cut to MW if he decides to make the cut, I dont think he will have any of the power he did fighting at LHW, his cardio was never that good either and will suffer more at MW.

Rashad needs to fight a lower level fighter in his first cut to MW to see how the drastic cut affects his performance, fighting Silva in his first cut to MW would not be the best way to do it.

I think Rashad vs Weidman needs to happen first no doubt, that way Rashad would have a legit win at MW ( if he wins ) first instead of jumping right into the mw division fighting for the title bypassing all the other mw contenders. Also Shad would know how much the cut affects his performance.

Do you guys agree it should be Weidman vs Rashad or who do you guys think Rashad should fight first when making his first cut to MW because I really think he will have too many negative factors against him making his first cut to MW.

at this point Anderson should not be considered imo

thoughts?

I'm wondering what Shad will be planningto fight at against Lil Nog on Saturday. He was 226 on fight night against JJ.

Not really since both GSP and Marquardt get to about 195 a week or two before weigh ins. 198-170= 28. 235-185= 50. Not saying that Rashad is a ripped 235 when he's there but I don't think he is as fat as BJ looks there.

The proper calculation is 198-155=43 kg, since BJ is a mid-size LW fighter

They both admit how much they hate the weight cut and Wandy at 205 and Wandy at 185 are two very different looking body types, Wandy looks like a chemo patient at 185.

Do you know a fighter who cheers about the pleasure of cutting weight?
Every week there are pictures of fighters looking miserable on their weight cuts. That is just part of business. The top ranks at MW and below are full of fighters who cut a lot of weight.

What Rashad would do is not any different than Belfort, Wand, Bisping, Munoz, Stann, Boetsch have already done.

and the excuses begin even before the fight took place

BJ Penn got to 198lb before his last camp. I guess that must have meant that he is too big for WW, right TS?

if only you made any sense or could comprehend what was said in the first place, who said Rashad was too big for MW? or did you not understand that this was about him cutting weight?

Anderson has been quoted plenty of times that he goes up to 230.

Not much of a weight difference. If Anderson can make MW so can Rashad
230 is likely Anderson's chubby weight.

I doubt anyone is cutting 45 lbs for their fights, especially after 30.

LOL. Excuses?

Rashad Evans is a light heavyweight. Whether or not he can cut to middleweight without issue has yet to be seen, but Anderson Silva? We know he can handle fighting at light heavyweight. Anderson's the person struggling to find an opponent and not because of contract disputes, fighting in a different promotion, or even being feared, but because wastes his time in a division with so little talent and doesn't want its number one contender.

Rashad would be a bit chubbs at 235... How heavy was he on the ultimate fighter?

Shouldn't be a problem. Everyone knows Anderson weighs 240. :icon_lol:

Whether it be Rashad, Florian, Vitor, Wandy, Guida, Mighty Mouse, Nate Diaz or all the other countless fighters that cut weight to fight in a lower division; I have faith that the fighter knows what they are doing in their weight cuts and for the most part, they hold their own. There's not really a need to argue and come to some dead-set conclusion that Evans is going to be half the man he is now with all the other cuts we've seen and fighters continue to impress. If Evans says he'll do the fight, then I believe he knows a way to cut the weight.

this fight will not happen because Rashad Evans will duck Silva again.

Yeah you know because there are so many examples of fighters with unsuccessful cuts:

zzz...

As opposed to the fighters comparable who moved down successfully:

Belfort, Wand, Bisping, Maia, Randy, Marquart, Alcantara, Boetsch, TJ Grant, Lentz, Nate Diaz, Kampmann, Siver, Munoz, Larkin, Oliveira, Ronny Markes, Vemola, Joey Beltran, Roger Gracie, Vera, Pyle, Stann, Benavidez, Mighty Mouse, Uncle Creepy, ...

i dont see shad beating silva.
but silva prolly walks at close to 220ish when he doesnt fight for a year.

i can see shad cuttin to 185, but i dont really think it will help him in his strength, speed or cardio against silva.

the fight would be better as a tune up fight for silva at 205 before he fights jones.

but we all know thats not going to happen since silva doesnt like fighting at 205.
