Rashad Evans said he gets over 235 pounds

This is Rashad around the time he fought Imes. That screams like a fighter who can lose many pounds.

He's definitely not ripped, but not fat in any possible way either.

It's seems to me that he had gained muscle mass since then as well...

Rampage has gotten over 250+ when not in camp omg i fear for him ever being able to make 205 again...

...oh wait he made 205 just fine.

i never really understand why guys with their extended layoffs dont cut to fight weight at least once then train to see how they perform. maybe some do but ive never heard of it.

yeah its draining and you probably wouldnt want to do it leading up to the fight except for the actual weigh in but it seems logical to know what to expect instead of having that big question mark about yourself especially going into a big fight.

Because cutting weight sucks, and really isn't a healthy thing to do.

It would probably be best for Rashad to take a fight at 195 first to get his body used to the cut - but if you're offered a fight against Anderson Silva that will make you millions of dollars you take it.

The only logical path for Rashad is to take at least one warm-up fight at 185 before taking on Silva. He WILL struggle with his first cut, there is no question about it. I'm sure Silva wants to give him an immediate shot though considering Silva ALWAYS tries to take the easy route. I don't understand why Rashad is not demanding a warm-up fight. It will be to his own detriment.

You can always make a dry cut and compete in a grind fight in practice to get used to the weight.

Our college wrestling team would be required to make a certain weight on mock match days to get used to the weight. Isn't that uncommon.

Furthermore Rashad wrestled at 184 in college, where he had to make the weight day in and day out. I know that it was a long time ago, but making 184 with an hour break is similar to making 195 or so with 24 hours to rehydrate.

I'd like to see Shad stay at 235 and fight Cain for the HW title.

Vitor and Wand have fought at that weight and much more ripped than Rashad, and both are MW fighteers in today's weight cut standards.

too bad Rashad and Rampage are two different people and weight cutting affects people differently, incase YOU were not aware of this obviously.

its Rashad's first cut to MW, what are you not understanding? did anyone say he is ducking anyone? I sure didnt.

You seem to be much more worried about this than Rashad himself.

He has expressed multiple times that he wants this fight with Silva specifically at 185, and that he did not have any interest in taking up a warm up fight.

Yet somehow you know better than him.

Look at Rashad's legs - that's where most of his weight is at. It's why Bendo is talking about moving up to WW eventually - he carries so much weight in his legs.

I remember when people would see Cro-Cop weighing 230 and saying how easy he could make LHW, not realizing he'd have to cut a leg off to probably make it.

i bet anderson silva gets close to 230 pounds when hes not fighting.

There are numerous quotes of Anderson saying that he walks around at 230.

"I apologized because I've trained really hard with my trainers for five rounds," said Silva. "I dropped down from 230 pounds to 205 pounds to 185 pounds. So, I worked my butt off. I had a long training camp to prepare myself for this fight. So I really feel like I owe everyone an apology for this fight. I owe you guys an apology; I owe the fans an apology and Dana (White).

and the excuses begin even before the fight took place

BJ Penn got to 198lb before his last camp. I guess that must have meant that he is too big for WW, right TS?

Not really since both GSP and Marquardt get to about 195 a week or two before weigh ins. 198-170= 28. 235-185= 50. Not saying that Rashad is a ripped 235 when he's there but I don't think he is as fat as BJ looks there.

regardless of how you think i seem and what Rashad said, its still his first cut to MW, if you read the article that i posted the link to ( which you obviously didnt ) you would see Rashad also said himself that he needs to see how the cut will affect his body, fighting Anderson first while seeing how the cut affects his body is not the smart thing to do regardless of what he says.

dear sherdog biology class,

although everyone is different, we are all similar. there is some old technology around that can measure body fat and other indicators. with this technology and a basic understanding of human biology, trained professionals can make accurate assumptions about potential weight loss

They both admit how much they hate the weight cut and Wandy at 205 and Wandy at 185 are two very different looking body types, Wandy looks like a chemo patient at 185.

Smart in what sense? He's risking losing his "warm up fight" (that term is a joke, everybody's dangerous as hell at this level) and not ever getting the title shot and the desired fight against the GOAT.

Besides, what does Anderson do while Rashad and Weidman have this fight? They wouldn't be able to make that fight until near the middle of the year, so now we're talking about Anderson being on the bench for over a year, or fighting Rockhold or something...
