Media Rarest/Most Exotic Submissions in the UFC/MMA (gif heavy)

Great thread...

Why can't all sherdog threads be like this?
Dude I appreciate it

Honestly was cathartic getting all this down on paper

You guys have shown me a bunch of new crazy subs I’d never seen, at least outside of WWE

I've got some digital footage from the first few ufc (had them on vhs)

I'll have a look and see if there is anything from back in the beginning

Yeah man there were some gnarly subs during that primeval age

1st UFCs were more about basic GNP, when it hit the ground...

I want to add the rest of Roop’s awesome additions, but I've reached the 20 image per post blockade, sadly. Be sure to check them out later in the thread- they're awesome.

also check below↓ for a Boston Crab (!) sub and a Grapevine sub posted by @TCE

@Roop Holstry also brings up the Can Opener submission

Edit: sheeit- somehow I forgot the Neck Crank! gah
thanks to @Zeroinnes for reminding me

Neck Crank: jus´ remembered Kerr´s infamous one vs Igor Borisov...

Huge letdown... Was hopin for a good match-up from this sambo dude...

On a sidenote, Igor left on a stretcher, and never competed again...

Hey @Flex Plexico: I've got two more for you.

1) The Bas Rutten Neck Crank

2) No idea what to call this thing that Minoru Suzuki tapped Vernon White with. Reverse leg scissors? Leg scissor face crunch?

Two additional ones I couldn't find pics or gifs of: Masakatsu Funaki once caught Frank Shamrock in a triangle/kimura from guard. He threw up the triangle, Frank had the arm inside tucked beneath Funaki's hips, so Funaki just grabbed it and kimura'd it. Pancrase was great for that type of quick-thinking improvisation.

And speaking of Frank Shamrock, his kneebar on Jeremy Horn is also quite the anomalous submission. He ended up triangling both of Horn's legs and just picking one to extend for the kneebar.

i have a distinct memory of Randleman screaming in pain, and (i think it was) Coleman yelling at him "don't worry it's just a pain sub, don't tap!" but for the life of me i cannot remember against who. maybe Shogun?

hold on, i'll be back in 10 minutes (just remembered i paid for fightpass a few months ago)

EDIT: i think i'm merging memories, because yes Randleman was screaming in pain, but i didn't see anyone (e.g. Coleman) telling him "don't worry it's just a pain move".

anyway, it's a great addition, simply because Randleman's leg is taco'd against his body:

Most brutal submission IMO. Unforgettable.
