There used to be a scam like that in the US with Japanese tourists. Drop a watermelon in front of them and tell’em it’s their fault. Watermelons are like $100 apiece in Japan so they’d feel really bad and usually pay up.

There is one in New Orleans where a (usually) rough-looking guy will squirt shoe polish on your shoes (even if they are not leather), swipe a couple of times then ask you to pay up for the “shoe shine”. Except he’s not really asking.

All these people are POS.
