When Elijah Smith powerbombed Toshiomi Kazama to the canvas, it was hard not to be reminded of Quinton Jackson.

Smith provided a “Knockout of the Year” candidate when he rendered Kazama unconscious with a powerful slam at the 4:10 mark of the first round in their preliminary bantamweight bout at UFC Vegas 109 on Saturday night.

The finish was reminiscent of an iconic “Rampage” moment: When the former UFC light heavyweight champion scored a slam KO of Ricardo Arona under the Pride Fighting Championships banner in 2004. Jackson took notice of Smith’s work in the Octagon.

“Got that wolf in him too,” “Rampage” captioned an Instagram post that included a video edit depicting both slams.

Smith has been victorious in his last seven professional outings, a run that includes UFC triumphs over Kazma and Vince Morales. It was later revealed on the UFC Vegas 109 broadcast that Kazama didn’t suffer any significant injuries as a result of the maneuver.

Beautiful, I love slam finishes. Someone should make a compilation video of every slam KO in UFC history, it would be well worth watching. I'd watch it, its not like slam KOs are everyday occurrences, we probably get 1 or 2 a year if we're lucky

The slam yesterday was brutal

If we're counting throws as slams, I remember Rick Story having an amazing one that I thought was going to kill his opponent.

Also, I thought Randleman killed Fedor with the Randleplex, but then Fedor tapped him out 30 seconds later. Fedor... just amazing.

Yeah so true, both those slams were brutal, I can't believe Fedor survived that slam, I thought for sure he was gonna have a serious neck injury and be in agony once the adrenaline went away, he was totally fine though. To make it even more amazing he tapped Randleman like 30 seconds later. amazing.

Something about slam KOs are just so brutal, much more force and impact than a punch KO or Kick KO etc etc. I think they are even more enjoyable because they are quite rare as well. JBG approves ;)

Need to find a good PRIDE compilation

Yeah I just finished watching that, I didn't even know they had a compilation video of it, thanks to @Bubba Kid for letting me know, loved watching it.

Agreed we need a Pride one, there has been some great slams in Pride.

There has been some great slams that didn't even the fight but were brutal, remember the Tank vs Nelmark slam, before the actual KO, that slam was brutal too.

1 or 2 a year? The UFC has had cards with 2 slam KOs.

I ’m amused by how they belittle brain trauma here

<thisgonbegood>

No significant injuries? The guy was unconscious for a good while after the slam and ate a couple of shots while being out like a light. I’d say that’s pretty significant damage. It’s not like he twisted his ankle and it swell. His brain went through a car crash simulation inside his skull! Just a minor thing, right? Yea yea yea they took a scan of his brain and no bleeds there, so all good to go!
