Crime Ralph Yarl shooting.

Does anyone wonder why the kid was opening the door at all? If you knock on a stranger's door in the middle of the night, would you personally reach for a handle and turn the knob - on even a storm door? I only ask because I certainly wouldn't - but it's always possible the kid had recognized how old the guy was and trying to assuage any fears by helping with the door? I don't know, we don't have any more information yet. Curious about everyone's thoughts on that detail.

Maybe he knocked on the outer got no answer so he went to see if he could hit the inner and get a better knock, hes there to pick someone up hes expecting someoneto answer this door...you really didn't think of that at all when trying to ponder why his hand might be on the door? I'm willing to bet I'm right on the money ....as someone who knocks on strangers doorsfor a living i do it pretty often and I do not expect to get shot while doin it. Oh my God why on earth would you even touch a strangers door after dark !!!!

Also ....he was expecting to be let in and when the guy answered he assumed he was getting let in....also not a good enough reason to fire a gun at someone through a door

Those are my thoughts on that detail. And it still makes the shooter a fuckin idiot who wasn't threatened at all and fired on a target he hadn't identified on a situation he couldn't have read more wrong

Dude had the worst take on Sherdog regarding one of these "self defense" shootings until that mod started shilling for the McMichaels and argued that you have a duty to comply to the demands of crazy armed psychos trying to detain you.
That Arbery thread was probably the worst, full of misinformation, and leaving a lot of McMichael defenders with egg on their face.

Kinda like the "white supremacy" boogeyman, eh ?

No because there's actually proof of that.

Is it true the man who shot him was an 80 year old?

Sad. I hope the kid survives. Some people in this country are truly sick in the head. A normal person doesn't shoot a teenager for knocking on their door/ringing their doorbell. That is not normal defensive behavior. This perp wanted to kill someone.
Probably has dementia on top of the racism.

Anyone remember this old story about this 16 year old Japanese foreign exchange student who got killed in America? He was wearing a tuxedo and he rang the wrong house for a Halloween party. I can't remember the specifics but he was this short manlet and the guy who shot him was much bigger than him.

Yup, he was looking for a house party, rang the wrong doorbell and the guy shot him with a .44

The victim's nickname was "Yoshi"

The shooter was acquitted.

Ok.

The shooting of the church worshippers by the racist
The shooting of the supermarket by the racist
The shooting of Ahmaud Arbery.

Yeah, those happened in the 1960's...

Oh wait...

Wanna know how I know you'll white-knight for people like that?

There was a clear glass storm door. So think two doors not just shot blindly through a solid wooden door. Old man opened up his inner door (think the yellow one in this picture) and then shot the victim through the still closed glass door.

I've had two moments somewhat similar to yours where it was middle of the night and someone knocked on my door. Grabbed gun and held at my side never pointing in a dangerous direction, one of the times I talked through the door the other time I did open it partway with my leg and body against the door should they try to push through. One was a drunk person, one was a late night arrival to her sister's place and each gave an "oh shoot, so sorry" type response once they realized they were at the wrong place. We lived in cookie cutter condo development at the time so I'm sure they were just off one unit or one street to the home they were actually looking for.

Exactly. Wrong door is a super common thing to happen. When I lived in shacktown all the little box house look the exact same. People would show up at my door all hours of the night ....they were looking for the guy who lived in the same house as me on there other side of the court mostly.

Didn't lock the door one night and a stranger just came strolling through my kitchen into the living room where I was seated to be greeted by a shotgun i heard the door close and footsteps and had about a second to react to it...he was startled and yelled out in Australia mate don't shoot I got beer ! Me him and the guy who's house he was supposed to be at had a good laugh about that one and still do.

You can't just blast people at the door...and even if you find yourself with a legal green light you should still take that split second to figure out what is happening. Drunk people and idiots on Xanax end up all sorts of places they don't belong ...and they don't mean ya harm they are just confused retards.

Yeah you really have to make sure it is a threat first. Obviously, no one expects an 85 year old man to kick a teenager's ass, but make sure there is actually a threat before you bring the piece out.

Damn, that's awful. At least the shooter told the guy to "freeze" though. Better than just shooting and asking questions later.. still awful, though. Halloween too - I could see someone being confused by that especially if English was not their first language.

When a person opens the inner door, it's only natural that you can open the outer door to talk face to face.

Often you've already opened the flimsy outer door so as to knock on the actual wood door even when at a complete stranger's house

There's no way the idea of him (allegedly) turning the handle on the storm door will be seen as the victim here attempting to break in

I thought both were locked . The old guy opened the inside door and his story was the kid was trying the handle as he was opening the door.

Not that that alone would have justified the shooting.

I mean, all you left out was that I said the shooter was a nutjob who needed to go to prison. You've made all sorts of insinuations about me simply because I thought "i don't know where my school is" sounded questionable. What makes you think its OK for you to craft an entire narrative for me as a person and demand I accept that as my identity simply because part of the story sounded weird to me?
Like I said, you people all have to knock someone down to pretend to be someone you're not. Thats all this shit is. Imagine thinking you take the high road by making atrocious insinuations based on semantics.
Yeah right, it's a laugh you think you're the victim, it's your own posting history there for everyone to read.

Lol... Good lord guy. They do exist. They're certainly not the biggest threat our country is facing. Go f#ck yourself with the "white knight" BS. Pathetic even for you. They're scum. But hardly the threat they're made out to be.
I had a coworker who learned in Church that half of “the whites” in this country were members of the Klan.

So it’s not like the media are the only ones beating that drum.

As for this, probably a bad shoot, probably someone who doesn’t have all his faculties and probably doesn’t have a racial component to it, but will definitely get trotted around like their is one.

Man this is so disingenuous. Give us a list of all the justified shootings from all over the country (to include law enforcement) and compare that with your cherry-picked cases... your attempt at demonstrating some sort of over-arching societal problem falls completely flat when examined in the proper context (that these incidents are not only quite rare, they are trumpeted across media whenever possible - we never hear of the black on black murders and we never hear of the justified use of firearms in self-defense unless there was a social justice angle at play).

Young black men killing each other? Nothing to report here. No other problems with American culture, it's the 85 year old white vigilantes that go out looking for trouble!!!

The statements have been released and until court and we are presented with forensic evidence it is word vs word. As the cameras no longer worked.

Lester told investigators that he had gone to bed when the doorbell rang, and he went to the door armed with a .32-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver, police wrote in that document.

Lester said he saw a Black male he didn’t know pulling on the exterior storm door handle, and thought his home was being broken into, the probable cause statement says.
Lester said he fired twice through the glass door, it says. Then, the male ran away, he told police, and he used his home phone to dial 911. He said he observed a car in the driveway of his home that he believed belonged to the male, but didn't see anyone inside of it.

No words were exchanged during the incident, Lester told police.

Lester said firing his weapon "was the last thing he wanted to do, but he was 'scared to death'" because of the male's size and Lester's age, police wrote.

Lester said he lives alone. A police detective wrote in the probable cause statement that he noticed a security system in the home and took the hard drive to preserve any evidence, but later found the equipment had last captured video in June 2022 and was no longer functional.

Yarl was interviewed at the hospital the following day and gave a different version of events, according to the probable cause statement. He told a detective that he did not pull on the door, and that he was waiting at the door after ringing the bell when a man opened the door holding a firearm.
Yarl “stated he was immediately shot in the head and fell to the ground,” police wrote. The teenager told police that he was again shot, this time in the arm, and ran, according to the document. Yarl reported to police that he heard a voice say “Don’t come around here,” police wrote.

I have not seen any picture to suggest Ralph was a large teen.
