ralph gracie sf = grr. argh. bleh.

As for the schools in SF, it sounds like we got a sherdogger that can go around and give us some reviews of the different schools that has no affiliation with anyone out there, so as someone who wants to travel and train I can't wait to here what you think of the other schools...if it isn't too expensive and you are going out there for a month, spend a week at 4 different schools and let us know what you think.

hey man, i'm gonna post a review of 10th planet in a new thread. but yeah that's pretty much what i've been doing. i've now been to 2 judo clubs and 3 bjj schools in SF proper. i think it takes more than a single lesson to really get to know a school, which is why i was hoping to go back to ralphs in spite of some sour first impressions. the instruction was solid and the workout was for real, it's just a bummer about the other nonsense. and yeah, i shouldn't have bought a lesson pack, i shoulda just gone class by class. but at the time i was doing the math in my head and, if i'd been able to train as much as i'd wanted to the lesson pack woulda been cheaper.

that said, i think i found my out-of-town school. it was a good night!

re calling kurt's eccentric vocal stylings 'retarded', you're right. it was probably poor form. but dang it so was deeming my lesson pack "expired". i just blew of a little steam. i'm not surprised that someone got pissy, nor am i terribly upset that he called me gay and pathetic. it's all part and parcel of the sherdog experience. you just can't take what you read here too seriously.

cheers!

If he's injured why should he go in and explain that to the instructor if he was under the impression that the training sessions didn't expire? That doesn't make any sense.

he should have checked rather than assumed, that makes perfect sense. he doesn't know the intricacies of the ralph gracie academy business, although it makes sense to assume it's the same as everywhere else, it doesn't hurt to check, and it clearly hurt him not to check.

And this brings me to the reason I'm responding to your post. I've read A LOT of ridiculous, and douchey things on the interweb this past week, but the above takes the cake.

How would you like it if some of the upper belts in your academy decided to haze you by getting dominant positions and slapping you?!? Assuming they are worth their rank, and you couldn't escape, I'm certain you'd be rethinking that ridiculous statement you just made.

If you want to hit people from dominant positions, go do MMA, otherwise take that bullshit ego out of the academy because it does more harm to your training partners than good.

firstly, don't tell me that that's the most ridiculous douchey thing u've read on the internet this week. that's a retarded exaggeration. u didn't read properly what i wrote, but i won't exaggerate by calling you an illiterate, uncultures slob. i said i wasn't surprised. i said i wanted to slap, not hit. sort of as a disciplinary measure, but i never said i did it or even came close to it. i said i wouldn't be surprised if in this world of varying ppl, someone somewhere did do it. god damn, i never said i supported it or if i didn't support it, i said i was not surprised. i wouldnt be surprised if somewhere in rural greece men fucked pigs, but i'm not supporting it. don't tell me i have a bullshit ego either, u can't judge that based on what i've written.

Obviously there is a lesson pack because Kurt addressed it. There was also no need to bring in a receipt because they had expired anyways.

IMO, the proper thing to do was for Kurt to say "I'm sorry I can't honor those lesson packs, thank you for dropping by, class is almost over but please feel free to get a few rolls in." After class in a more private conversation(not screaming across a gym in front of all of his students), discuss the details of what went wrong.

Ou school is so different. When we have visitors, by the end of the night we usually have exchanged a few techniques, a few bjj journey stories, contact information, and an open invitation to visit each others' schools. But hey, to each his own.

Dude just sounds like an angry gay man that didnt get his way.

.

stay pathetic

LOL, hello pot, meet the kettle, ya dig?

we are learning how to fight and or defend ourselves arnt we? some people sound pretty pathetic saying they dont feel safe at a place where you learn to fight.
Oh and this is a pathetic attitude if i have ever heard of one!!!! Anyone should feel safe when going to a martial arts instructors school to learn self defense. When you put yourself in vulnerable positions with people who are technically better than you in an effort to have them teach you how to defend yourself, you sure as shit better be able to trust those people.

i wouldnt be surprised if somewhere in rural greece men fucked pigs, but i'm not supporting it.

yeah but don't be suprised if we think you do support fvcking pigs if in the same post you mentioned that sometimes you have wanted to fvck pigs will in greece, im just say'n:icon_neut

i first thought that ralph got signed to strikeforce.

as to the topic, sucks for you, but u should have gone in while injured and talked it out then, not after. didn't ur teacher's teach you that with late assignments? "see me before it's due not after". anyway, i've heard ralph is rough and all, but part of me wants to slap ppl who can't escape, so i'm not entirely shocked one teacher out of thousands actually does it.
his "leave me and i'll hurt you" thing is what bugs me. i'm loyal to renzo academy because i've been given so much and asked for so little (next to money :)), they don't force ppl to stay, ppl choose to.

me too. disappointed now. lol

To start with, this school is run by Kurt who a BB from Ralph Gracie. This experience shoud not reflect on Ralph Gracie intergrity.

I'm from san francisco and heard the same thing about ralphs, when I attempted to sign up there, the customer service was bad and the overall vibe seemed like a bunch of meathead tough guys.Fortunatley he is not the only game in town. Darren umenyoya has a gym I'm daily city, amd carlos sapao (ralph gracie blackbelt) just opened a school near the beach. From what I've heard both gyms are friendly with great instruction.

That sucks man. I've always heard good things about Kurt but that does seem kinda shitty. Move on, keep training.

No, he shouldn't have. Here in America its good business practice to give people what they pay for. He paid for a service (6 "lesson packs), and was not told verbally, or via his receipt that his lessons were perishable goods. That would leave one under the impression that you were good for 6 lessons, regardless of time.

he doesn't know the intricacies of the ralph gracie academy business,

Good business is good business no matter where you do it.

although it makes sense to assume it's the same as everywhere else, it doesn't hurt to check, and it clearly hurt him not to check.

No argument from me there.

It actually wasn't, you really did win the accolade of dumbest post this week, and with all of the Brandon Quick fiasco going on, that's a pretty tough task. Congrats to you! Please contact MikeyTriangles for your trophy, tell him DB sent you.

u didn't read properly what i wrote,

You said that sometimes you want to slap people who can't escape from positions. Not much to read into there buddy.

i said i wanted to slap, not hit. sort of as a disciplinary measure,

Slapping is a form of hitting, and who are you to discipline other grown men??? Its your instructors job to make sure his students absorb the material he teaches, that's what he gets paid to do.

god damn, i never said i supported it or if i didn't support it,

You said that you wanted to, and by wanting to, it makes you a supporter by default.

i wouldnt be surprised if somewhere in rural greece men fucked pigs, but i'm not supporting it.

What does pig fucking in rural greece have to do with your hidden desires to "slap" people from dominant positions?

don't tell me i have a bullshit ego either, u can't judge that based on what i've written.

What you wrote seemed ultra macho, and now that you've gone into detail about "disciplining" the students there (by slapping them), there isn't much room needed to judge, because you've pretty much shown your hand already.

exactly.. when visiting the Irvine area, I went to Gracie Barra for few days.. just wanting to check it out.. This is one of the most competitive teams in the world.. and I felt very safe and welcomed.. yes the sparring sessions were intense and it was great! (got my ass handed to me by a blue belt who had to just turned 18 at the time.. kid was so well trained!) If I ever moved to that area, I would sign up without a question, but at no point did I feel any macho aggression from any of the students or the instructor.

I also visited Brazilian Top Team when I was in Vegas for work.. was there for 3 days.. wanted to do more but work.. (work is overrated by the way lol) and they had me pay day by day and it was a great experience. Everything was ran very professionally and friendly. Even got to roll with Bebeo who was head man at the place and while he was aggressive in his style of game he plays, at no point I felt like he was going to hurt me.

Well the guy is self affirmed gay man, and there's no offense to be taken there i know and work with a few gay guys and when they throw a fit that's how they act a little off balance and crude.

This is absurdly funny and crude itself. Stereotype much?

For the record, not gay. :icon_lol:
