Food & Drink Raisins in the Potato Salad

I’ve been hearing about the whole “white women putting raisins in the potato salad” things for years now. Strange enough, I’ve never witnessed this event. I’ve had confirmation from white and black people alike saying this is true.

Since a lot of us will be eating with relatives for Thanksgiving, I’d thought I’d ask

Maybe it's an American thing, I've never seen it down here and we do potato salad a lot.

I'm white for reference, my wife is white too, however she doesn't cook, I wonder if she's put raisins in a potato salad if she did?

Just speaking with co workers and folks I went to school with. Said they had aunts who put raisins (and other things) in their potato salad. I’ve never seen it to this day so I was curious to see if other people have.. I think one poster said they had a woman put apples in the stuffing lol

I cook a lot of weird stuff but I've never been having discussions about raisin potato salads in my 49 years other than this thread.

Most likely. Possibly some gaggle of whites in northern Minnesota attempted this once, and were ostracized from their communities, and rightfully so. You might get shot trying that in the south though.

I agree. I lived amongst North Dakota/Minnesota Lutherans. Their church potlucks had some really perverse salads. Worse, they tend to use Miracle Whip instead of mayonnaise.

The strangest was a potato salad with mandarin oranges, apples, raisins, and walnuts.
