Quotes about Rickson and his JJ ability

He subed funaki too, enson would've destroyed rickson by late 90s though...
I'm not dissing Rickson or his ability dude... just saying that if Rickson (who is portrayed as the "Samurai warrior" willing to defend GJJ, etc. etc. etc. Had he just freaking took some of the Fights offered to him... instead of saying "pay me more than the hundreds of thousands or millions you already are". This entire debate would be pointless and not based off beating people who barely knew bjj/grappling, and anecdotal stories.
You can't even say that he was scared of the rules as a reasonable excuse
1) He fought in Japan
2) Had Yakuza support and money
3) Could get the unlimited time limit and other rules he wanted
Once again, I am not dissing Rickson or his ability. What I am saying is that this debate is as much his fault as anyone else's for not taking the fights, using getting paid as an excuse (I'm talking before his son died). d

I've completely left my opinion of him as a person (a whole other topic) out of this debate.

Side Note: Mark Schultz was and is an amazing wrestler and I understood your point earlier which is why I didn't say anything. But Mark Schultz wasn't THE wrestler in America much less the world, one of many greats for sure but not quite what you are portraying.

I was just saying he took on funaki which was way better than takada.

I agree though on your sentiments towards rickson, although his first vale tudo tounaments he was fighting some what it was avaliable at that time, 1995 and 1996 there wasnt that much either to pick from... but a couple of years later, well, there were guys coming out who would totally have beat him...

Thank you for understanding my point.

Lets put it this way (in my own view) ; i sure hope that Rickson did come up with some kind of super improved form of jiujitsu, hybrid of Rolls expriences and Rickson's innovations, because the more i learn about both GJJ and BJJ (over 20 years now), the less i am impressed...(by both the old and new school).

Even if all of the stories about Rickson smoking Saulo, Xande, and various other world champions are true I don't believe his invisible jiu jitsu is really the ultimate form of JJ and as good as people claim it to be. Otherwise he'd have created at least 1 world champion other than Kron, a kid who has been training JJ since he was born. The only possible other explanations is that Rickson is an extremely crappy teacher or his jiu jitsu only works for him and can't be passed on.

I'm kind of inclined to believe the notion that world champs would beat him on points but no one can tap him, and when he was a little younger he would have been able to tap the world champs of yesteryear given enough time to work.

Its a good point and definitely worth considering. My view to that is that his jiu jitsu is not geared towards points competition and is highly offensive in nature, which could be an issue for guys playing modern day tecnhiques which lock Rickson's style down and win on points. If you watch any of Kron's rolls really, he is dangerous in almost every roll ive seen and i firmly am of the opinion he beat Marcelo Garcia in their roll where Marcelo admitted to pretty much going out by guillotine. Yes Kron lost by points but thats not in the spirit of the roll but thats just my opinion.

I would suggest having to try invisible jiu jitsu because its very explaining it, you have to just try it for yourself :). Again, my opinion, ive trained at a lot of places, seen all kinds of styles of JJ and to me it's fact that Invisible Jiu Jitsu stands alone as the best jiu jitsu out there.

If

If that was really the case his black belts would've been tearing the jiu jitsu and Mma world apart, kron is incredible, but he ain't Marcelo garcia

I make mention of this point above, but yes good point. However, i think Kron got the better of Marcelo in their roll where Marcelo almost went out by guillotine.

Nha Marcelo won, but you still have to considered that was Marcelo coming out of his prime, Marcelo 2003 2005 2007 was something that kron can only dream of.. Don't get me wrong he's a phenom, but maecelo is above phenoms, and he ain't doing no invisible jiu jitsu

When I was on vacation in Maui I trained with Luis Heredia who trained under Rickson. I asked him if Rickson was as good as they say. He said in the 22 years he trained with Rickson he never saw him tap. He said he has seen all the other Gracie's tap but no one ever came close to making Rickson tap.

Find me one person who has seen Relson tap or made him tap. Even Rickson will tell you he never tapped Relson.

If someone told a story of Rickson taking down and choking angry rhinoceros people some people would believe.

I heard about that, the rhino got fucked up.

I read a quote by one of the Ribeiro bros. First roll ever with Rickson, they went about 15 minutes and Rickson finally got the tap. Second roll was less. After a while, Rickson had him figured out and was basically tapping him at will. Someone else-- ah, I wish I could find it, it's out on the interwebs somewhere-- said the thing about Rickson is that he can completely control your hip movement and immobilize you, so he feels super heavy, and you feel helpless.
