Question about someone's athletic feats

When I made the thread, the 5:30 mile was the least of my concerns.

"Raheem Mostert hit 23.09 mph during a 2020 game, setting the current record for in-game speed. DK Metcalf famously reached 22.64 mph while chasing down an interception in 2020"

To me it’s odd at this point in time that you think it can’t be accomplished with years of near optimal training. The reason you do not see it often is because basically nobody has the incentive to reach those levels if their preexisting capacity for speed is not great. His training obviously began in his youth. Most youths of our era didn’t care at all about developing elite athleticism but rather getting a job and starting a family. Not that that’s a bad thing either.

except nobody is arguing against your point. i didn't say he had to have a million dollars, i said it's ridiculous to compare some nobody to freak athletes as if they're the same. 1 is born in the 1% of genetics with all the money in the world to further enhance their elite athleticism into the stratosphere, and the other guy is Joe Schmo drinking creatine in his backyard, all natural, AND IS JUST AS GOOD AS THE ELITE 1% WHO ARE ON STEROIDS?

you must not have read all of the OTHER evidence that i wrote. Usain Bolt is ONE SECOND SLOWER THAN THIS GUY, THINK ABOUT THAT.
problem is I dont know what a dash is and I had to google a mile is 1600 meters and I also don´t know running numbers or next to nothing bout NFL, I get the basics of NFL though. So I can´t comprehend how good these claimed feats are by this random youtuber. Also why can´t we just verify it, like doesn´t he post evidence ?

in my head I calculate how many rounds that is on our 400 metter soccer field, one circle is 400 metters, thoguh running forward is easier. So overal I´m not the guy to gauge running ability at all. I do below bare minimum running myself indoor and on the threadmill.

Because you don't get paid for an athletic feat doesn't mean it isn't achievable by somebody who doesn't. There are people out there who have elite athleticism with and without steroids and with and without even training. There has been some amazing athletes with vertical jumps that blow professionals out of the water but they wouldnt even make the cut on a NFL team. What you are seeing with Bolt and the like is just a snapshot at a given timeframe and everybody recognizes that as the pinnacle but what you dont see are guys who run a faster time than bolt in training when nobody is watching that nobody even cares about. It is sort of like what GSP talks about how there is no such thing as a best of all time.

OK, but the track & field pros training also behins in their youth.
They also care about developing elite athleticism.

This argument I can accept.
However, those ahletes with high vertical jumps have attested world records, for example.
GSP was comparing different ranked fighters, not a guy from youtube that could compete with him.

I also run at a soccer stadium.
A mile has 1600 meters, so 4 rounds.
Pretty difficult to do it in 5:30 minutes, I would say.

Yes those track athletes were selected at an early age to compete in track based on their genetic predisposition. Alec used his own methods to eventually catch a track athlete in sprinting with not as great of a genetic profile. He has an article about it somewhere if I recall.

what GSP was saying was that rankings, p4p rankings etc were completely made up as there is absolutely no way to determine who the greatest of all time is or if somebody fought somebody one night then the next night they fought the outcome could be different.

It is kind of like powerlifting where there are strong people out there who never even bother competing and there is no way to know how strong they ever actually were if they never competed.

There is no way to determine who the best athlete of all time is as time and circumstance is a major factor in that as well as a whole host of other reasons. All we can do is speculate.

No 90% of best day max is something you can regulary demonstrate
