i think the numbers of people who are trump supporters who also believe in some of the truly crazy aspects of q anon are pretty high actually. its right in line with a couple of intersecting problems our country is facing that have reduced critical thinking.
fundamentalist Christianity is partly to blame because rather than allow literary and historical criticism to deepen their understanding of the bible they went off the deep end and rejected it causing a completely unnecessary and permanent rift between scientific advancement and fundamentalist beliefs.
the new age movement which has infiltrated millions of american's homes with pseudo science and all kinds of impossible to believe ways of thinking has produced a similar rift between reason and logic and its followers.
i know there are other factors involved but in these two systems of thought you are trained to trust your feelings and intuitions as a way of gaining certain knowledge and that has lead millions of people to confuse feelings for facts.
the problem is that q anon sounds true in the mythological sense, as a mythology or a metaphor for reality. q anon and all mythologies resonate because they speak to archetypal realities but obviously that doesn't mean they are true historically.
"evil greedy reptilians" are a metaphor for greedy corporations and politicians who have lost their humanity, a single, often belligerent lone hero who can save the town (trump) resonates deeply with our american western mythologies etc.
these things sound a chord in the myth brain and to the uneducated that makes it feel literally true and they are duped.
Nail on the head, my good man. I think much of the horsepower behind the movement intersects with American Evangelical Christianity, which became big business in the 20th century promoting a "wait and see" platform riddled with proof-texted and completely misinterpreted passages of the Bible. Everything is a code, everything points to rapture and Armageddon. Everything is 4D chess.
And when predictions didn't work out, it's really easy to justify your charlatanism by simply saying, "God works in mysterious ways."
If I didn't have a conscience, I'd create a platform and fleece every one of these rubes for all they have and build an abortion clinic with a Satanic chapel right in the middle of Oklahoma.
