Q&A on Thailand

Yeah, u may give a little knowledge here and there, but you talk like you're hot shit and it's real abrasive like. I wonder how you behave up in Thailand.

I remember someone talking about how they have bad conflict resolution skills...something about passive aggressiveness, corrupt government etc. It was a real interesting read, i'll see if i can find it.

Here's a little snippet of the discussion that i found.

The Thais and the Khmers and their societies are practically identical and they both share exactly the same thing: A total lack of conflict resolution skills. The standard way to resolve a conflict is to immediately turn to violence. You see it from the street all the way to the highest political office in the land. Both of them. It's all about "face". Being born and raised in Thailand you do know about "face", right? Well guess what, "face" is the very reason that Thais and Khmers are so fast to take offence. "Face" is the reason why rock apes in uniform find it acceptable to pull guns to solve traffic problems they themselves caused. These are intrinsically very violent people, how else do you account for the Khmer Rouge, the grenade attacks in Phnom Penh of '97 and the Thai army turning weapons on protestors in the capital?

I'm sorry, but what a bunch of horseshit. Using this particular logic chain, you could say the same thing about the Japanese, Americans, Russians, Chinese, and just about any ethnic or national group on the planet.

69 penang gym in the slums of klong toey is probably your cheapest bet. I just showed up there and asked if I could train. I said I was a fighter and never payed a penny. They are also famous in Thailand for arguably having the best clinchwork in the country as they specialize mostly in that. You got many fighters who come to the gym a few days a week just for clinching and then leave and do the rest of there training a different gym.

Could you write a review on 69 Penang gym? I have not heard of anyone training there and would like to read your complete thoughts on your stay their.

More interesting stuff about the problems (for my lack of a better word) of thai culture.

Thai Culture.

Facing Facts

I wouldn't place too much stock in these stories. They positively scream "I'm a wannabe expat who thinks he knows his shit because I married an Asian chica."

I've seen this kind of attitude all over the world from pinheads who think they understand the local culture without realizing how superficial actual comprehension is.

Hi, I am currently living and training in Thailand (2nd time here) I will give some advice.

-Bangkok has poor air quality, dirty, horrid traffic and there are better locations to train (prolly great for some if looking to fight a bunch, just not my taste). Fun perhaps for shopping and clubing, but i would hate to stay longer than 4 days.

-Where i am at, Chang mai has cooler weather, is cheaper, way better food (best food ive ever had period), tolerable traffic, pretty ladies (like everywhere) and i havent trained too much elsewhere in the country but I can hardly imagine a better place to be.. in short Chang Mai rocks.

-South is beautiful, cheap, amazing beeches, but for me too hot to train, or stay longer than 1 week

-Learn to speak thai. Its a fun challenge, will help you get better prices, more respect and great with ladies

Yeah his articles do seem to be on the negative, critical side. But i just want to know what to watch out for and how to stay safe in Thailand and not get ripped off too much, or end up in jail with some drugs planted on me or something. I'm inherently a non-confrontational person, and i'm not extremely outspoken, and i hardly get mad too easily, so i think i'll do Okay. Most of all i just wanna enjoy my stay and get the most out of it.

i was wondering, what is the freeweight section like in sinbi, it looks pretty good in the pics i have seen?

It's a good set up. They have a full set of dumbbells, set of Olympic weights, two benches, a lat pull down machine, and sit up benches. I never used the weights while I was there.

No, they're a LOT on the negative and critical side. They positively reek of the colonialistic look-at-the-funny brown people shit. I've seen this short of nonsense would-be native guy who marries a local and then sits around pointing out all the differences all the while putting a personality/cultural trait spin on it. It's usually for the negative and all the while, he thinks he isn't going to be called on his ignorant bullshit because most people A.) don't have the balls B.) don't have the knowledge or C.) if they do, he pulls the but-I'm-married-to-a-native shit.

It's fucking irritating reading shit from ignorant people like that.

Look at that dig at the Thai's lack of conflict resolution. Look at the example of a corrupt authority structure. The problem isn't face, it's the fucking corrupt authority structure!. And trust me, the Thais ain't that bad if you've ever worked in Africa, and I have. But wanna know where I've seen corrupt and racist authorities that make the Thais look upright? Right here in the US, deep south, after Hurricane Katrina when I was working for the American Red Cross.

If there's any one piece of advice I can give you, it's not to take advice or read too much into dipshit expats like this who aren't there because they love the country but more because they can't hack it on their own terms in their home countries.

When you get to where you're going, you'll be fine so long as you're not an idiot. Make some local friends and have them help you navigate unfamiliar cultural waters.

I'd give you different advice if you were going to run a branch office or a major engineering project or doing a foreign rotation in a hospital. You're not. You're going to learn muay Thai and get laid without paying too much money. You're going to be fine without someone else filling your head with a bunch of shit you'll figure out on your own.

Can you speak to this guy's question? No?
Perhaps spending $50,000 USD that should never have been spent can answer his fucking question. No?

Why was it spent? Because no one bothered to tell me to go just 100km down the road and I'd save 95% of my money (like Thai Boxers do).

Perhaps you're the one who cannot answer?

What was wrong with saying overpricing BS is racist?

Your problem isn't your knowledge, it's your attitude. It's wearing thin.
How should I be reacting to the stuff I've described? Enlighten me THOUROUGHLY; I expect nothing less than a 5 paragraph answer to this.

This is something I've thought about for a long time; I like people to challenge my ideas fairly, but don't expect lazy comeback... I've thought about this a long time.

Also, your reading comprehension ain't so great either, if you think people are attacking your integrity and not your demeanor.
I'm clearly not the one attacking.

Yeah, u may give a little knowledge here and there, but you talk like you're hot shit and it's real abrasive like. I wonder how you behave up in Thailand.
If someone knows the name "Tenchu"... well, let's just say I doubt people would fearlessly insult me, even if they did do so.

I'm #1!

Sarah, what camps other than Tiger have you trained at?
Tiger Muay Thai; Phuket.

Muay Thai Institute; Rangsit, Bangkok.

Jaroenthong (but not much, admittedly); Bangkok.

Now I'm at Suksivichai; Suksivichai family.

I've been doing Muay Thai in Thailand for 2 years. But these are only the gyms I've formally trained at; I've actually visited many gyms.

More interesting stuff about the problems (for my lack of a better word) of thai culture.

Hehehe... Stickman... he likes the Thai girls... sicko.

Now i wanna hear some positive stuff about Thailand.
No. I want to take it back to the negative; since that's where all my experiences so far have ended up, I think it's a good place to start...

Listen to this and you wil fail... or... probably you already have?

Should be interesting to hear a woman's perspective on all of this instead of Laura D's hippie shit about Thailand.

LOL!!!! tell me thats not you tenchu... your not made for sherdog brother, you will be banned soon enough ahahahahahah

sherdog is filled with a bunch of pussy admins that get real butt hurt when you talk about real shit. (watch me get banned for that statment)

for everyone else, arguing with tenchu/sarah is like arguing with a thai woman on her period, even if your right you will always lose!

J_C i am arriving on wednesday and going up to chiang mai aobut a week later, where are you training?

Can you read? The guy asked how Koreans and Asians in general are treated in Thailand. I can answer that for him from direct, personal experience. Can you? No, you couldn't. So you gave him some irrelevant information instead.

How should I be reacting to the stuff I've described? Enlighten me THOUROUGHLY; I expect nothing less than a 5 paragraph answer to this.

I actually think some of the things you have to say have value, I think the way you say them makes you a dick.

What you CAN do is speak your mind but do it without sounding like an wannabe wiseguy with a chip on your shoulder. If you think you think you can get respect by acting street, you're in the wrong venue.

I'm clearly not the one attacking.

Like I said, your reading comprehension needs work. No one attacked your integrity and no one accused you of being a liar. That came to you on your own.

Now, at this point, I AM insulting your reading ability as well as your decorum.

If you want to go back and reread this thread and see what was actually said, that's fine. If you still have a problem with me after doing so, I don't really give a shit.

What you're not going to do is pretend that you're the aggrieved party here. You stirred this shit up and you called the attention down upon yourself. Don't pretend like attention wasn't what you wanted.

If you're actually the person you're trying to give the impression you are, you'd man up, be an adult and actually address your attitude issue instead of acting all butt-hurt.

Feels like my girlfriend is posting in this thread. Logic goes out the window and all we're left with is emotion.

EDIT: then sex.

SarahS, thank you for your info. You must understand that respect is your strength, being unrespectful to other people just weekens you- noone will respect you either.
