Q&A on Thailand

I've noticed that this thread is getting less traffic now that it's stickied. I never pay attention to the stickies, i just realized this was stickied today lol.

And has anyone here ever fought in Bangkok? How much experience do you have? by time i get to Thailand i will have had about 1 year of muaythai under my belt, i guess the trainers woulden't let you fight unless they were sure you were ready?

I've been on this gym tour from tiger Muay Thai/Phuket MMA, Fairtex Bangplee, & Kaewsamrit, and in all cases if you to fight they can find you a fight.

I would love to go to train in thailand, I have been practising muaythai for seven years now. The thing is I have a fiance who I doubt would be very impressed with me disappearing to one of the biggest sex tourism capitals of the world for a number of weeks (not that sex is my reason for wanting to go!). So what I am wondering is this; would a trip work if I was to bring my fiance along like a holiday? Even though Id spend alot of each day training... Is there any places that have gyms but also nearby beaches ect where she could spend time while I train? Not sure if Ive got my problem across clearly but hopefully someone will understand my dilema and can help. Thanks.

Yeah, the gyms on the islands in Koh Samui and Koh Phangan. I don't know if they are as prestigous, tho.

Sad to say, those are beautiful places, but the serious gyms are near or around BKK. If you did travel to Thailand, you split the places with GF, allow you to go tgrain a bit at a gym and then later go to some nice torusity place like Phuket.

When my wife comes to Thailand with me, I only train in the morning at Sinbi. She sleeps in and by the time I am done, she is ready to go to the beach or what ever.

She doesn't look down on bargirls at all and actually has become friends with some of them. They get to say they have a Japanese friend and she has other ladies to go to the spa with. lol

- How long should I train before spending time in Thailand?
- Will it be smart to learn Thai or do the majority of Thai' speak english?

I know people who only train Muay Thai when they are in Thailand. They don't train at all when they are home. You don't need any experience to train there. It's often better to start from scratch.

You don't need to learn Thai, but it does help to know the basics.

i will never set foot in lumpinee again.
yesterday they tried to screw me sideways,it's really became a dirty business were in.
i'm tired of the whole scene and hope someone shakes them up for there dodgy business practice.
oh yeah, for all you farang who don't know, when your at the door paying 2000 bht, we thai get in for free, every thai does not pay.
yesterday they tried to say it's free as usual, but i must pay if me and my girl sit together, anything for a few extra bht, why would we sit seperate when we go together, and why does 2 seats magically appear when we pay extra.
many people are growing tired of the sharks at the door, why have a ticket window thats behind 40 sharks.

What would they do if you called them out on it and told them you wanted to get in free like everyone else?

I have never been to Lumpinee for that very reason. I am not going to pay 2000 baht.

I think it's worth doing ONCE, just for the ringside experience.

If they had kept it at 1000 baht, I'd go every time I'm in BK. As farang, I don't mind paying a little more. 1000 baht is just a couple drinks in JO bar.

When it went up to 2000 baht. That's excessive. That crosses the threshold for me from farang fee to just plain ripping me off.

I was last there in summer 2008. I had heard about Lumpinee changing the clinching and kneeing rules. How did that work out?

It probably also has quite a bit to do with the directions the thread has been taking the last few months. Looks like it might be getting back on topic a bit though...

like i said we get in for free, however having some guy in your face trying to tell me i must pay if me and my girl sit together is bullshit.
a promoter recognised me and offered to fix problem but i just left as i was well pissed and ready to swing on the guy at the door.
the money is no issue its the principal.

it probably depends where you go in thailand on who knows english and who doesn't. Youll be able to get around without knowing thai. But yeah, knowing some simple stuff will help out quite abit.

I paid the price, 2400 BHT, to see Sanchae's lsat fight in Lumpinee and all the belt fights. Well it was a worthwhile experience or once in a life time deal. Plus it was a discount because one of the fighters at the cup fought at the Kings Cup international tourney.

I was happy to see that I didnt see any bullshit judging & I am happy that went.

So how does it look with the 'new' rules? I heard no body lock clinching, among other things.

I'm thinking of going to Thailand to train for 6-8 months and since I've never been to Thailand and ill be going by myself i have a couple questions? about gyms, nightlife, etc.

Do you think 6-8 moths is to long for a first timer traveling alone?

What vaccines do you recommend getting?

As for gyms i was i have a couple in mind and was just wondering your guys opinions on them. i plan on training hard and by no means I'm i lazy but i would like to go out about once a moth to party and maybe pick up a bar girl so i would like a gym were i could do that.
The Gyms: Legacy Gym,Ubon/ Chay Yai,Chiang Mai/ True Bee,Pai/Scorpion Muay Thai Gym,Pattaya. or any other suggestions you guys have.

On average how much would a room cost per month? I don't need a huge room just a bed, fan, i would like a tv with ether cable or dvd player since i only plan on going out once a moth but its not necessary.

Whats the best city to train in? which city has the best gyms/fighters?
