Q&A on Thailand

You gotta be able to read thai too. If I recall correctly, they do not have a specific gender row. If you can read thai, 'Nang' is female, 'nai' is male.

Hey, thanks for the advice. I will definately get those two words memorized and squared away. :icon_lol:

Ermm..they will be in Thai though. What I had typed, 'nang' and 'nai' is what the thai words would sound if read out.

Ahh!! I can add, since many farangs here I assume may not know about this. When you read their ID, you may see the year they are born as 25xx. This is because they follow the buddhist calender. To find out their birth year, deduct 543 from this Buddhist year.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that 2009 is the year 2552. So, the year 2534 or before is 18+. Is that right?

Supposedly so lol. And I am not sure if they will surely know what you mean if you ask 'ID'? Ask for 'Baht Prachachon' instead.

Buying gear in phuket is not expensive, just dont buy it at the gym. Take a spin to the bazaar/market and haggle with them and you can get a very reasonable price.

Wait -- which markets in Phuket are selling gear? I never saw any.

Cool Toastytoy! Say what gym are you training at? What brands did you see in bazaar? Any chance you try to get customized Muay Thai shorts with long vents or side cuts?

I know Phuket is a resort town so it doesnt surprise me that they jack up prices but I dont think Phuket is not as expensive as Maui per se.

Just ask them to straighten their arms until their elbows are locked. If they stay straight, they are a man.

Hey, the elbow test is a new one to me. Now I have a whole host of field tests to perform while making my assessment. :icon_lol:

By the way, did you ever wind up buying those "Muay Thai" brand gloves for 500 baht that you were looking at, and if so how are they? I am headed that way in November, and was wondering if I should keep them on my list of things to check out. Thanks.

I went to the shop yesterday and to try on the gloves. The thumb was a bit too short, so I didn't get any. I did pick up a pair of muay thai brand punch mitts for a friend, they were only 800 baht. The store is super easy to find. It is a short (hot) walk from MBK shopping center.

I made a thread on the G&E forum with my loot.

most lady boys are easy to spot but some are impossible.
i know a lady boy thats worked in a bar for 8 months and the staff dont even know she's a dude.
some dont even have the tell tale adams apple.
just ask them and they will usually tell you,
if its a woman she will get a little angry when you ask but dont worry she wont go anywhere, 5 minutes of angry silence then shes good to go again.

Looking through a friend's honey moon photos I commented "fark dude how did you stay faithful, there's hot women everywhere!".

It was then he told me about Lady Boys...

The best place ive seen gear for sale was at fairtex camp in bankok, its made nextdoor and is sold at trade price so its half what youll pay in phuket

the last few summers ive been in thailand.

but this year i put it off so i can save my money and go back in 12 months for a year.

1 month is just toooooo short, just start getting warmed up and its time to come home

Oh, payak, is it worth it to buy MT VCDs(pirated)?

I saw one at about 120 baht. I tried to haggle it down to 50 baht but she would not budge.

The market i was thinking of is right across from the mall. I didnt really check out the muy thai shorts there since i already have plenty of shorts but i did get a pair of diesel jeans, sandals, and khakis for ~25$ :D

I am training at Pattong boxing gym. Great place very friendly trainers and you get lots of one on one time. In terms of lodging, in my opinion the best thing to do at least at first is check CouchSurfing - Participate in Creating a Better World, One Couch At A Time for someone to host you, that way you have somone to help show you around and of course its free. After a week of couch surfing i get an apartment on top of the hill between pattong and kathu. It is the low season now so i got it for 5000 baht per month.

ask if you have any more questions! Im off to train!

I'm in Bangkok now guys, headed up to Chiang Mai in a few hours. 14 hour train ride :D . First impressions are pretty much what you always hear--its fucking hot, Bangkok smells, and people drive like lunatics. Last night I was waken up at 1am to the sounds of a screaming orgy in the room next to me. It was so shamelessly loud you wouldn't have believed it. All I could do was laugh. Anyway, ill keep you posted on how things go out here. Its most definitely an interesting place.
