Oh, payak, is it worth it to buy MT VCDs(pirated)?

I saw one at about 120 baht. I tried to haggle it down to 50 baht but she would not budge.

Normally I'd say get a Thai person to ask for you but I don't know if even a Thai could get a VCD that's normally $3 for 1.50...

What's the Thai phrase for cheap person that they usually throw at Chinese people, I think it has something to do with 1/100 of a baht maybe?

I'm in Bangkok now guys, headed up to Chiang Mai in a few hours. 14 hour train ride :D . First impressions are pretty much what you always hear--its fucking hot, Bangkok smells, and people drive like lunatics. Last night I was waken up at 1am to the sounds of a screaming orgy in the room next to me. It was so shamelessly loud you wouldn't have believed it. All I could do was laugh. Anyway, ill keep you posted on how things go out here. Its most definitely an interesting place.

im pretty sure its only a 7 hour train ride, either way your ganna see alot of country side on the way up. chiang mai is my favorite place :icon_chee, your ganna have a blast there, its nothing like bkk. what gym are you training at?

Right now I'm really just passing through Chiang Mai on my way to Pai, where I'll be spending time at the gym there. I want to check out Chiang Mai after though, I've heard good things from everyone. What gym would you recommend in Chiang Mai?

Also, is there a place in Chiang Mai to buy equipment? I don't have shorts or gloves :(

The one I usually hear is keeniow or cheap charlie.

The reason is there was another set there which are 49 baht for 1 CD, but for some reason the MT one was priced 100over, which was why i bargained

Arrived at Keatkhamtorn gym last night, so far so good, this gym is by far superior to Scorpion Gym... and since there's not much to do around, no distractions.

Anyone training or have trained here?

For anyone that is interested in a good Thai/English dictionary or more accurately transliteration, I just ordered and received a copy of latest edition (2009) version of the Thai-English Dictionary by Becker. The 2002 version received good reviews on some Muay Thai blogs for English speaking people traveling to Thailand to train.

It has the English word, then the English defination, then the Thai script, and then the Thai sound in English pronounciation, in addition to being able to find the English definition by the Thai sound of words. One thing that was funny about it is, that the profane or obscene version of words has a little black skull and cross bones next to them, so you know if you are swearing in Thai. :icon_lol:

They are available online, and I got mine at Amazon for like $18.00 US. Just thought I would pass it along.

I use the lonely planet thai phrasebook. It's fairly handy.

I am training at Pattong boxing gym. Great place very friendly trainers and you get lots of one on one time. In terms of lodging, in my opinion the best thing to do at least at first is check CouchSurfing - Participate in Creating a Better World, One Couch At A Time for someone to host you, that way you have somone to help show you around and of course its free. After a week of couch surfing i get an apartment on top of the hill between pattong and kathu. It is the low season now so i got it for 5000 baht per month.

ask if you have any more questions! Im off to train!

I'd like to hear everything you have to say about your experiences at and around Patong Boxing Gym (training, accommodations etc.).
On top of that - have you training anywhere else for comparison?

The market i was thinking of is right across from the mall. I didnt really check out the muy thai shorts there since i already have plenty of shorts but i did get a pair of diesel jeans, sandals, and khakis for ~25$ :D

Ok, I just used my new Thai/English dictionary to find out what "mak mak" is. I still have 3 months until my trip to Thailand. Stop it man, you're kill'in me. Ha! :icon_lol:

I've learned a good amount of basic, conversational Thai from the Pimsleur series. Of course, most of my really valuable Thai has come from hanging out with bargirls for years.

See, it works both ways; they teach me, I teach them.

I've also taught them at least a dozen different ways to give someone the finger.
