I tell my true story of losing face in Thailand. Payak and perhaps Lunch may answer what would have had happened if I had spoke back.
I was at this place. A,B and C were chatting fine together with me. The atmosphere was very cordial.
Then at the end of it, A and b who were the food stall owners were due to collect the payment for the food I ate.
A mentioned a specific sum. I had to tell him to list the price of each food item out to me because I genuinely had not sufficient money for the rest of the week.
This is where the problem begamn. He recalculate in front of us and found a mistake. Hence A 'lost face'.C jumped in, and wittingly or unwittingly, insinuated that I am a miser begger stingy miser.
The whole episode happened very fast. I figured out the whole thing only after I went home.
I thought about the whole thing and found C in the wrong. The reason I had to argue for just a few baht, is because C had asked me for a hundred over baht just 1 day before to drink beer.
I wanted very much to speak back, but the remaining of the week A B C were not together again and there would not have any effect if I were to speak to any of them alone.
Would C have taken revenge against me, if I had went back and caused C to 'lose face', and perhaps the most of it because then he will seem like an ungrateful bas**** who forgets gratitute once the money is in their pocket.
