Pyfer: The Prototype For Poorly Booked Hype Jobs (Blame the UFC, not Joe)

100%. Joe got absolutely got dismantled by a basic proper jab and some calf kicks. Imagine wtf a guy like Alex would do to Dana's boy
Pereira doesn’t stuff those takedowns. Not saying Joe would beat him, but shit ain’t black and white like that.

The fight was set up for him to win. Jack is coming off of a huge layoff, and is known to get dragged into fights with guys who are a lot more powerful than him. Unfortunately, Joe is only used to being the hammer and has defense, fight IQ and cardio issues. Oh, and he did a lot of media this week too.

A good, curt read.

Pyfer was clearly bigger, more powerful at the weight. Not to mention younger.

This was a classic case of the Young Bull vs. the Old Bull ... with Jack being the Old Bull, who schooled the youngin ...

The hype job done by the ufc and Rogan on him has been tremendous. Some points they made about him:

  • Hardest hitter in the ufc and likely mma
  • Driven and hardest worker ever
  • Finally realizing his talents and ready to break out big time
  • Comes from nothing - nothing to lose and will fight to the death

Bro just got derailed by Jack Harmansson LOL

His power is definitely overrated.

R1 First Half: Pyfer marches forward with impunity throwing huge power. Very dangerous. Any punch could end the fight.
R1 Second Half: Pyfer still looks dangerous, but Hermansson more able to shell up.
R2: Pyfer can no longer march forward, Hermansson takes his chances with TD attempt, but Joe’s counter strikes and combos are still a super dangerous threat. Hermansson walks forward throughout and gets caught sometimes, but generally does okay.
R3: Commentators note Hermansson not shooting for takedowns being ‘very surprising’, but he simply doesn’t need to by now. He can comfortably out-strike Pyfer now outside of getting clipped by big power punches.
R4: Pyfer starts to look for takedowns because he’s getting out-struck. Leg damage and jab-for-jab equality isn’t helping. Pyfer gets aggressive but it isn’t as effective as in R1, Hermansson is winning the striking battle.
Cover narrative: “Hermansson is really great defensively”, despite the fact he’s winning offensively.
R5: Hermansson cruises to a 48-47 by dominating the round.

Conclusion: The UFC want hype jobs, but hype doesn’t elevate these guys to a level they aren’t at. Pyfer vs Hermansson was too much. Malott vs Magny was too much. Patience, UFC matchmakers, patience…

Pyfer probably comes back better, but he wasn't ready for this.

Pyfer saying the difference "was just a calf kick" is kinda ridiculous.
I am stoked for Jack but i don't want to see Dana's Contender guys being coddled. Get in the deep end and sink or swim.

looking at you BO..

He wasnt ready... nothing i saw in his other fights suggested he was going to win tonight..

In the words of D.C..
There are levels to this game...

Same thing would happen to Bo nickels too...

Thats why he aint fighting anyone with a rank number soon

another one of the major problems with modern UFC, is that they try to force hype, promote, these fighters off of subjective dumbass shit that will reel in the average ESPN watcher. instead of promoting the fighters based off of what they have accomplished. case in point, pyfer. they tried to say he's the hardest hitter. yea fucking right. pretty sure ngannou would have been able to KO hermansson. another failed hype job, among many. dude couldnt even put away old man hermansson. #11. GTFO here. respect to hermansson, so glad he got the win.

Joe Pyfer still has potentiall IMO ... he just got schooled in The College of Hard Knocks.

Seriously believe he still has potential 💪

That's fair enough, really, I just think there's a bit of room in the divide between entry level and ranked fighters that should be crossed - even if it's some handpicked guy!

In a way it was a pretty typical prospect loss.

Pyfer has come this far with pure clubbing KO power alone.

Now he's hit the wall where that can't take him any further. Jack introduced him to things he hasn't had to deal with before. Straight punches. Adjustments. Proper punch defence. Jabbery. A lot of general hand-fencing and rythm-play. Gameplanning. Pace. etc.

His "natural" attributes are spent. Now its time to show if he can evolve and learn or not.

Francis didn't have to consider these things until he fought Stipe. But Francis managed to evolve. Lets see if Pyfer can or not.

Naw i wish they did this more...

So these new fighters learn to stop yapping and keep working instead of winning one fight and start yapping how they'll beat the champion and i KIELL EVERYONE...

Moral of the story kids... careful what you wish for and keep your words soft and sweet just incase you gotta eat them later on ...

Martial artist mentality greater than Prize fighter brashness ...always
