a bored cat is a destructive cat. always have plenty of enrichment for them (toys, treats, scratching posts of different texture) and try to keep a litter box in most rooms.

Possibly. You could always get the cat declawed (ex insisted ours were, the bitch), but scratching posts, lots of toys, and they do make a furniture guard.
