well, if admitted it would relieve Lousiana of the psychological burden of being the dirtiest state
sorry, Cinturao. it is true.
sorry, Cinturao. it is true.
I was referring to your statement that a state seceding is highly unlikely. My post first reply was disjointed now that I read it, but the southern states were able to secede because their state governments wanted to. These recent talks about secession have no state government or military backing, so it's basically a pipe dream for some people. Don't have to be a dick about it man.
this won't happen. puerto rico is home to big pharmaceutical industries. these companies get huge tax breaks by being located in puerto rico. if they get taxed, they move and puerto rico turns into a jobless shithole in no time.
I misunderstood your post, and thought you were sarcastically saying that some states unanimously want to secede today, so that it in fact is as likely to happen as PR becoming a state. My bad.
I do think there is a good chance PR becomes a state sometime in the next 10 years or so.
The chances that U.S. citizens are allowed to go to Cuba sometime in the next 20 years or so is pretty high. Once that happens PR will be seriously hurt. If they become a state before that and can make the island a little safer it will help them, and if they are a state and we get taxes from all that it would help the U.S.
what exactly would change if it became a state instead of a territory? wouldn't it basically be the same shit?
a spanish speaking state? not in amurrica
Haha, yes. Seceding from the union is not a unanimously shared sentiment in any state, by any measure.
We already have 5-6 of those and growing..
Why not?
