PS2 or XBox... what should i buy???

I've chosen the XBox in anticipation of the system's future. In order for Sony to contend in the long run with the technological power of the system, they're going to have to go the way of Sega, and it's already begun..... addons for the PS2 that will drive the total cost of the "ideal" PS2 system above $500, plans for the PS3, and so on... while the XBox is sitting here literally buying developers out from under Sony (had to expect that from Micro$oft). The games are coming in waves. Launch has been slow in this last month, but that's because of the incredible February and March that will soon be upon us. WWF Raw, Jet Grind Radio Future, Buffy The Vampire Slayer (almost embarassed to say this one, but it looks incredible), Wreckless, all the Sega Sports games... added to a list of games that have amazed me, like Halo and Project Gotham Racing... their game list is looking more and more incredible by the month. It won't be long before their XBox Network goes online, and Microsoft then proceeds to revolutionize the online console gaming market. This, too, will lead the XBox into the future, and to an eventual finish that will be more impressive than PS2's lifecycle by far.

Sony leads the pack now...... but let's not forget who used to lead that very same pack... and how they lost it. Call me pessimistic, but I see history repeating.

After remaining quiet in the weeks following the launches of Xbox and GameCube, Sony Computer Entertainment America finally joined the war of words started by Nintendo and continued by Microsoft.
Sony announced today stronger than expected sales during Thanksgiving week, exceeding its original product forecasts despite the current economic conditions. Based on sales reports covering the first holiday sales weekend, the company projects that total PlayStation category sales will bring in more than $1 billion in retail revenue during this month, SCEA said. Taking a direct jab at Microsoft and Nintendo, SCEA said the launch of their consoles had no impact on sales of PlayStation 2 or PS one.

More than 317,000 PS2 units and 100,000 PS one consoles during the week of November 19 were sold, SCEA said. PlayStation 2 sales rose more than 62 percent from the week prior, it added. This sales volume remained consistent for the week of November 26 as the company sold more than 321,000 PS2 units, with PS one experiencing another 100,000-unit week during this period.

These latest sales findings brings the installed base of PS2 in North America to more than 6 million units since its debut 13 months ago.

"We experienced record-breaking sales for the PlayStation family of products during the Thanksgiving time period and expect this trend to continue throughout the holidays," said Jack Tretton, senior vice president at SCEA. "For the first time since the introduction of PS2 in 2000, consumers have the opportunity to choose from multiple new console offerings. Competitive marketing efforts drove consumers to retail and many chose to purchase our products once they compared the benefits of each system. Overall in 2001 we forecast that 66 percent or $2 out of every $3 retail console dollars will result from sales of PlayStation products."

JiuJiuBee, listen to all these guys. They know their shit when it comes to Video Games!! I'm an amatuer compared to them.

I bought both systems because quite frankly.... i didnt know which one to choose. Both systems have their pros and cons, but i really loved everything they had to offer. Here's what i gathered so far from both systems....

PS2 - AWESOME GAMES!! They have anything in every genre u can think of. The selection of games are endless. Right now, the PS2 is kicking serious ass because 1.) They have been out much longer than the XBox, 2.) Money.. $$$ PS2 has tons of support from many manufactors, and will only continue to get larger, 3.) Like i said before, the games matter a lot! Still, look at the XBox too!!

XBox- I really love this system too. First of all, its fairly new, and they dont have the best selection of games right now!!! BUT..... be patient like i am. By the end of this year, the GAMES will come. Mark my word!
Advantages of XBox:
~ Better graphics and sound compared to PS2.
~ Built in memory card. (Saves u money)
~ Built in 4 way controller adaptor (Saves u money) U would have to buy this ala carte for PS2.
~ DVD player is better. Its faster, and the sound is a little better.
~ Theres other shit the guy at the store told me about, but i forgot. Help me out guys!! Something about combining XBox's... playing on the Internet... etc...

Anyways, my point is... u cant really go wrong which one u decide to get. Both are awesome pieces of equipment, and both will make u happy. Maybe u should rent it first, and compare what u think! Then buy.... or do what i did and buy BOTH!!! Win-win situation there!! Like i said before, listen to these guys too.... they helped me out a lot when i asked for advice. U will learn a lot! Hope this helps.

Dave those figures are north america only. Games sell world wide, if there are 20 million PS2s out there, than that is the number developers look at.

And for the record, the 4 meg of vram is hardly the crux of the PS2. PS2s main strength (one of them), is its video mem dynamic allocation scheme, which is brilliant. 4 meg isnt too hard to deal with when you just download whatever you need into vram on the fly (I am making it sound simpler than it is, but you get the picture). Jet Gring Radio Futures slick look is generated procedurally, and isn't as dependant on lots of textures, etc., the cell shading and siloutte (sp) rendering is all done by the cpu (or in the XBOXs case, the GPU).

nah, it was rumored for a while, but... I really doubt it will come out on the Box. They would have announced it by now, and for that matter info and screens would have leaked out. They released a new movie like every month when the PS2 version was nearing completion.

Shooto, have you played Genma Onimusha? I know you like the RE series, and this one plays similar, but its set in Feudal Japan (its made by Capcom as well). It was out on the PS2 a while back, and the suped-up XBox version just got out. If you havn't played it, I recommend looking into it.
